The women of entertainment sports wrestling are taking over the scene, where they have been consistently performing in the shows. Lately, the women’s division has been featuring a number of new faces like Liv Morgan, Rhea Ripley, Roxanne Perez, Stephanie Vaquer, and many more, but one name tops them all: Chelsea Green, who is making history in WWE.
The Black Widow is part of the new era and has taken the responsibility to elevate the level of women’s wrestling. After all, WWE decided to book her by making her the inaugural champion of the Women’s United States Championship and entrusted her to make it prestigious.
However, long before she earned herself a WWE contract, Green was part of indie wrestling and shares how she earned a mere $20 on her debut.
Chelsea Green gets candid on her 1st match earnings
Chelsea Green is living the dream of every wrestler. She has risen from struggling in the indie wrestling scene to become one of the greatest talents to grace the WWE ring with their in-ring finesse and the consistency that the company has been longing for for ages. Despite being out with a broken nose, her stardom remains intact among fans, who eagerly await her return.

She has been taking over social media, and fans love her as young kids see a role model in her who radiates confidence and enthusiasm for the sport. The Canadian wrestler was present on the Lightweight Podcast With Joe Vulpis, where the host asked her about the “slumming” in indie wrestling. The question triggered a recollection of her struggles, where she mentioned that she did not have any “knee pads on” and was paid “$20” for her performance.
The answer intrigued the host, asking her what emotions followed upon receiving her first payment from the sport that she was hustling so hard.

Surprisingly, more than the money, she had other reasons that made her fall in love with the sport, even making her debut more memorable. She said,
It wasn’t even that I was getting paid. It was the fact that I was like in the wrestling ring, and people were cheering for me, and the whole front row was my friends and family, I loved it, I loved it.
But what made her embrace her time in Indie was her release from WWE in 2021, and the Indie fans welcomed her with “open arms,” as if she “never left” in the first place. She emphasized that working with the same set of companies, promoters, and people brought her so much joy, and it is a “low-key experience,” which now makes her embrace her entries in the exclusive WWE’s premium live events.
Chelsea Green’s dad was shocked to see her wrestle
There’s no denying that Chelsea Green is one of the brightest talents in the industry and is also one of the safest and most entertaining performers to work with. After all, she is nearly on the veteran list, which makes the company perform in the long run. However, her dad was taken aback when he saw her stepping inside the ring at WrestleMania 39 with her dad present in attendance.

Later, in the same interview, she mentioned how she felt ecstatic when she noticed her dad sitting in the crowd. However, he was mortified when he saw her working in the indie scene, but her mother and grandmother have been extremely supportive of her. She said,
I think he honestly was like, ‘What the f**k is this?’ Whereas my mom was there. Day one in the crowd with a beer in her hand, like fully embracing it and same with my grandma, actually. Both of them were very, very like, ‘We know you can do this.’ My dad is like, ‘When you do, do this, then I’ll be there.’ wow they’re so opposite they couldn’t be more opposite.
Nevertheless, Green mentioned that she does not need the constant “reassurance” from her family and friends and doesn’t really care if her close ones are present in her biggest moments. After all, she feels that she’s not too emotionally available and focuses on wrestling and proving her worth to the fans.
Night of Champions will take place on June 28, 2025, at 1 PM ET on Peacock in the U.S. and Netflix internationally.
