Why Netflix Shouldn’t Emphasize on Sanji’s Pervertness in One Piece Live Action Series?

Among our lovable Straw Hat crew, there’s always been this one character who received plenty of criticism because of his extreme pervertiness toward other female characters. Yes, this is none other than Sanji that we’re talking about. While it was tolerable in the form of anime, Netflix might need to tone it down a bit.

But why would that be the case? Despite Sanji’s excessive pervertiness in the anime, there’s a fair share of female fans who love him. In fact, it’s hard to hate him if you take a closer look at his actions, how he always respects women despite being overly attracted to them. Then why should the live-action change it?

People often overlook certain aspects in animation!

It has always been evident how fans tend to overlook certain things when it’s being animated, especially in anime. Japanese anime, in some sense, has gained this widespread reputation of being comically different than real-life stuff. And a major example would be the generalization of womanizing characters.

It’s not just in the case of One Piece‘s Sanji; there are plenty of characters in almost every single battle shonen series, where you’d get to see at least 1 or 2 such characters. So, female viewers often have a problem with anime’s way of doing such things, and it’s absolutely justifiable.

Which is why, when a series like One Piece is getting a live-action adaptation, there is an undeniable need to tone down such frivolous character moments, as we see in Sanji. In live-action, such pervertiness would totally turn off the viewers who might not be aware of his original character from the manga/anime. This is a risk that Netflix must not want to take.

Netflix has already done a good job with Sanji’s character in Season 1

On one hand, we love Sanji for his epic fights and impressive character growth, but on the other hand, his obsession with women can be a total mood killer. It’s great when he’s kicking the enemies’ butt, but things get weird when he’s around women.

The good news is, Netflix has already set the bar pretty high with Sanji’s character in season 1. Instead of being a full-on pervert, he’s more of a charming flirt who comes across as endearing rather than off-putting.

This take on his character has been getting quite positive reviews, and it’s clear that the show’s creators have a good handle on what makes Sanji tick. If they just stick to that vibe in Season 2, it’ll be epic.

By keeping Sanji’s character more down-to-earth and relatable, Netflix can make the story work even better in the form of live-action. There’s no need to go overboard with the pervy stuff or make him come across as some kind of weirdo. Just with a bit of finesse, Sanji can be a fan favorite without being a creep, and that’s a win-win for everyone.

One Piece Live-Action Season 1 is currently available to watch on Netflix.
