“We are not done with the Bulwark”: Space Marine 2 Devs Promise More Radical Features After Last Change Went Against the Rulebook

There’s no denying that Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 was one of the best releases of 2024. The title brings a terrifying third-person shooter experience that stays true to the Warhammer 40k universe. Developer Saber Interactive has brought tons of updates to the game since its release and continues to bring fresh additions.

Recently, Space Marine 2 received Patch 8, which added a brand new game mode, cosmetics, and a number of other changes to the game. However, with the update, Saber Interactive has deviated from the Warhammer 40k lore, and the developer has declared that it will continue to do so in future updates. Clearly, Saber isn’t afraid to take the franchise in new directions.

Saber Interactive is breaking the tradition in Space Marine 2

As we’ve said before, Patch 8 brings a number of additions to Space Marine 2. However, what has really caught the eyes of players is that Saber has decided to expand the weapon arsenal in PvE mode by giving the mighty Thunder Hammer to the Bulwark class.

On paper, this seems like a fantastic change. Thunder Hammers can smash through every Tryanid, and when combined with the capabilities of the Bulwark class, enemies won’t stand a chance on the battlefield. However, this goes against the established lore of the Warhammer 40k verse.

If you’re unaware, Bulkwark is the Space Marine who uses a shield and sword to crush down enemies and take the last stand. It’s a class whose abilities, such as Shield Bash, are tied to the Storm Shield. With the recent update, Bulwark won’t be able to use this shield if he equips the Thunder Hammer.

Few in the community are frustrated with these changes for Thunder Hammer and believe that Saber is breaking the verse. However, the studio isn’t afraid of taking such bold moves. In the patch notes, Saber has stated, “We are not done with Bulwark,” and players can expect to see more changes in the future.

Sure, such changes might not make sense lore-wise, but as long as they add fun to the experience, who really cares?

Space Marine 2 is getting a successor soon

Well, if you’re someone who simply can’t get enough of Space Marine 2, there’s some good news. Focus Entertainment has revealed that Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 3 is happening, and its development is in full swing.

Focus announced Space Marine 3 with a 15-second teaser on YouTube. The trailer features an image of Titus on the left, giving us the angry look we all love him for, and the game title on the right. Of course, Saber Interactive is also developing this entry.

Other than that, Focus hasn’t revealed much about Space Marine 3. We don’t know what we can expect in terms of gameplay, content, or even a release date. However, considering what Saber has managed to do with Space Marine 2, we can bet that the successor won’t be a disappointment in any way or shape.
