After decades of dominating Hollywood, George Clooney made his Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck. His fantastic portrayal even earned him a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Play. The 2025 Tony Awards were supposed to be his night. However, on June 8 at Radio City Music Hall, it wasn’t just his performance, his headline-worthy return to silver hair, or his star status that stole the spotlight. It was his 8-year-old twins.
In a red carpet interview with E! News, Clooney revealed that while he’s been spending his evenings onstage playing news legend Edward R. Murrow, his twins have their eyes set on a different kind of entertainment: Taylor Swift and the cast of Wicked– so much so that they couldn’t care less about Hollywood legends either.
George Clooney’s twins and their pop culture obsessions
In a red carpet interview with E! News’ Keltie Knight at the Tony Awards, George Clooney revealed his twins are obsessed with these pop culture icons, saying:
They want to see Taylor Swift. The funniest part is that they have no idea of references. Robert DeNiro will be at the house, and they’re like ‘Who’s that?’ They don’t care.

Despite growing up surrounded by Hollywood legends, Ella and Alexander, Clooney’s twins with his wife Amal Clooney, remain blissfully unaware and unimpressed by the A-list circle. Their current obsessions? Pop star Taylor Swift and the forthcoming sequel to Wicked, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, Wicked: For Good.
They do like Wicked a lot. They’re looking forward to the second part.
Clearly, their interests lean more toward sparkling ballads and mystical witches than black-and-white newsrooms or onscreen mobsters.
Even on one of the biggest nights of his career in recent times, Clooney appeared more than thrilled to discuss his kids’ interests than his own achievements. And while he did not go home with a Tony, he did walk away having reminded fans that, for all his fame, he’s still just a dad with two Swifties for kids.
Clooney’s Broadway debut and transformation
Though his children may be more enchanted by Wicked than Murrow, Clooney’s Broadway debut was truly remarkable. In Good Night, and Good Luck– a theater adaptation of his 2005 Oscar-nominated film- Clooney took on the lead role of Edward R. Murrow while also overseeing production. The play debuted at the Winter Garden Theatre on April 3 and closed on June 8, the same night as the Tonys, after a brilliant run that broke box office records, earning $4 million in just a week (via The Hollywood Reporter). The play was even broadcast live by CNN- a Broadway first.

To look the part, Clooney went through a rather striking transformation: dying his trademark silver hair blackish-brown to match Murrow’s quintessential 1950s look. The dye job made serious headlines (via GQ). At the Tonys, Clooney was seen returning to his signature salt and pepper look while walking the red carpet.
Though he didn’t win a Tony last night, Clooney’s nomination marked a successful and in-style Broadway entrance. But I think it’s safe to say his twins would still prefer the Eras Tour to the Tonys any day.
As fans and critics praised Clooney’s performance and transformation, he seemed more than happy to let the conversation shift to his children and their pop culture interests, reminding us that even Hollywood legends got nothing on Taylor Swift and Wicked.
