There’s Only One Hero Legendary Enough for Denzel Washington If He Ever Joins Black Panther 3

Denzel Washington revealed during his Gladiator II press junket that Ryan Coogler was in the process of writing a character for him in the upcoming MCU film, Black Panther 3. Ryan Coogler confirmed that this was indeed the case, however, Washington’s possible role still remains under wraps.

The film is expected to be a part of the MCU after Doomsday and Secret Wars wrap up the Multiverse Saga, which means that it is likely going to be part of the new continuity that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will allegedly adhere to once the Multiverse saga wraps up. There are a slew of characters that Denzel Washington could essay in the MCU, but one sticks out head and shoulders above the others, especially when it comes to a Black Panther project.

Denzel Washington might be able to play Bashenga in the MCU

Bashenga was first mentioned in Black Panther in the MCU. The character could be a stand-in for T’Challa, who the MCU might find a little difficult to depict in the ancestral plane. Bashenga would be from a very different time, not having faced a world as full of superheroes as the latest Black Panther might have. Given that he has confirmed Washington’s presence in the project (via 7 PM in Brooklyn), Bashenga is a great choice for the actor.

Ryan Coogler, with his unique style and voice, can do a lot with the character, especially given the themes and thesis of Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Coogler, if he is writing the script now, probably knows what’s in store for fans come Doomsday and Secret Wars, which is going to influence what the threequel is going to look like.

However, there are also other characters that Denzel Washington can essay in the MCU. Characters like Adam Brashear, Doctor Voodoo, or even the X-Men’s Bishop are all characters that could actually be pretty fun to see in the MCU, especially given that the Fantastic Four and the X-Men will definitely be part of the universe by then.

If Marvel is indeed going Cosmic after Secret Wars, Denzel Washington has to play Adam Brashear

Adam Brashear remains one of the few characters, other than Sam Alexander, Richard Rider, Blade, and Beta Ray Bill, that fans really want to see in the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe. Brashear, also known as Blue Marvel, is one of the few characters who are considered to be expys of Superman to come out of the pages of Marvel comics.

As one of the smarter heroes in the Marvel Universe, Adam Brashear would be right up Denzel Washington’s alley. With a story that ties into American history as much as it ties into comic history, the character would be a great addition to the discourse that the Black Panther franchise often deals with.

If the Marvel Cinematic Universe does end up going cosmic after the events of Secret Wars, Adam Brashear would be a great asset for the story to have, especially given that the adevent of the X-Men are going to bring in Shi’ar Guard into the MCU, and apart from Sentry, there needs to be a counter balance for cosmic characters like Hyperion and Gladiator, which Adam Brashear would be aperfect fit for.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theatres on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will hit theatres on December 17, 2027.
