In the rich tapestry of characters in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, along with our lead character siblings, Tanjiro and Nezuko, there have been a handful of characters who have left a deep impression on the minds of the fans. But none have come close to the character stories of the demon siblingling, and the Upper Moon six members, Gyuutaro and Daki.
Introduced as the primary antagonist of the Entertainment District Arc, this sibling duo didn’t just bring havoc to the Demon Slayer Corps, but also touched many viewers with possibly one of the most touching and tragic back stories the series could ever produce. Despite having a Demon background, Gyuutaro and Daki arguably are one of the best sibling duos of Demon Slayer. Here are some of the reasons why.
Gytaro and Daki: A Bond Forged with Suffering
Born into the lowest caste of the Entertainment District, Gyuutaro and Daki began their journey with extreme suffering. While Gyuutaro was often treated as an outcast for his appearance, his sister Daki (born by the name Ume) was praised for her beauty but was ultimately used and discarded by society.

Throughout their backstory, both Gyuutaro and Daki have been victims of various tragedies, from being disrespected, abused, and betrayed by people to staying starved without food, suffering from illness. These situations strengthened their bond in facing the world together. Since then, Gyuutaro has protected Daki with savage devotion, and Daki, in turn, clung to her brother as her only source of safety. This early trauma made their bond inseparable, even after converting to demons.
They Fight as One: Perfect Demon Synergy
Being the Upper Moon six of the Twelve Kizuki under Muzan, Gyuutaro and Daki have cemented their strength as one of the toughest demons in the demon ranks. Their unique fighting style perfectly mirrors their relationship, complementing each other being a dangerous tag team. While Daki is known for attacking with grace, speed, and deadly sashes, Gyuutaro works from the shadows as a hidden ace, using poisoned sickles and brutal strength.

Their ability to coordinate attacks, with the requirement to kill both of them simultaneously to defeat them, makes them a formidable force to reckon with. In their battles, they don’t fight as two demons, but as one deadly force, reflecting their emotional and psychological connection.
The Sibling Bond That Fell Into Darkness
What makes Gyuutaro and Daki stand out as the best sibling pair from Demon Slayer is not just their strength or loyalty, but it is the heart-touching emotion in their story. The siblings did not choose to demons out of revenge or any form of Malice, but as a last resort for survival. After Daki was burned alive, a customer and left her on the brink of death, Gyuutaro was offered a chance to save her by turning them both into demons.

Even in their time as demons, Gyuutaro was often seen scolding Daki, not out of cruelty, but protectiveness, showcasing their humanity. Even during their fight against Tengen and Tanjiro, Gyuutaro came out to protect his sister from getting hurt by the hashira.
One of the most heartfelt and memorable moments in Demon Slayer history comes after their defeat against Tanjiro and Tengen, when Gyuutaro tells his sister they can go to hell together, but she can still turn back. While Gyuutaro feels that his sister deserves the best and should go to heaven, Daki chooses to stay back with him until the end. This moment solidified their feelings for each other as one of the best siblings the series could produce.
In many ways, Gyuutaro and Daki are a dark mirror to Tanjiro and Nezuko. Where Tanjiro has proved that he can sacrifice anything to save his sister’s humanity, Gyuutaro sacrificed his humanity, turning into a demon to protect Daki in an unforgiving world.
Their story is a reminder that not all demons in Demon Slayer are born evil; some are often victims of traumas that are connected to their past. For that reason, Gyuutaro and Daki remain not only powerful foes but unforgettable, tragic siblings who embody what it means to love against all odds.
