‘The Apothecary Diaries’ Is Fixing Its Biggest Issue Through Its Latest Arc

The Apothecary Diaries has officially raised the curtain for the upcoming events. The recent episode unfolded some major revelations, and it’s saucy as heck. The drama uncovered some of the most horrifying events in the story.

As Maomao finds herself among Loulan and others, she learns the truth. The schemes and the trickery are brought to the surface. But there’s one thing that the recent episode did, which is by far a commendable feat for the anime.

Episode 21 of the second season was dark, disturbing, and deeply unsettling for viewers. However, it solved one of the glaring issues within the anime, especially with the ongoing arc. But what is it exactly? Well, let’s find out!

The Apothecary Diaries finally fixed its glaring issue

The Apothecary Diaries is celebrated for its ever-present mystery and suspense. The plot is slow burn, and that’s exactly what hooks us to the series. This is true especially in the manner in which these elements are uncovered.

Bit by bit, Maomao incorporates her intellect and knowledge to expand on the situation. Earlier, we were dealing with the inner workings of the concubine chambers. But now, things are getting serious as the plot progresses.

She finds herself in an alien territory alongside Shisui, who is Loulan. The kidnapping was a turning point in the story, but we weren’t prepared for what was to come next. What blew most fans away was the recent episode.

Episode 21 was a jaw-dropper for us fans, but what’s so impressive about it was the pacing. An episode so fast that even the Kardashians couldn’t keep up with this one. Redditors pretty much vouched for it:

Not to say the anime is snail-paced or anything. Heck no, this one was fast-paced in a good way. For viewers, we’re sure they were glued to their seats till the very end of the episode. But that is not all there is to it.

This is probably one of the darkest episodes in the series. It highlighted brutality, abuse, and trauma at its very core. Something so macabre would shake anyone up, but this sets the stage for what’s to come next!

The stage is set, the curtain rises..

Holy moly! Episode 21 was a banger, but it also left most fans jarred. No one assumed that Loulan, of all the people, would poison kids. Some will probably hate her character for being ruthless, but mercy killing is a thing, people!

Those kids were exempt from the brunt of being killed. Why? Well, this all started because of Shenmei and her orchestrations. Her schemes and plotting led to the experiments on Feifa and the subsequent assassination.

There’s a war that is brewing between the Shi clan and the Royal Family. Now that there’s sufficient evidence of Shishou’s actions, Lakan won’t hold back. Jinshi and Lakan, along with Gaoshun, are prepared for the battle.

Interestingly, fans also want to see Shenmei get a taste of her own medicine. Right off the bat, she looked down on Kyo-u and Maomao as mere rats. She abused Shisui for her lineage and yet she struts around proudly.

From what we know, she is about to face the music for real. The future episodes might give a satisfying conclusion to her wrongs!

The Apothecary Diaries is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
