A TEENAGER has died in a horror single-vehicle crash involving a pick-up truck in Co Kildare.
The incident took place on the Barrettstown Road in Newbridge shortly after 8pm last night.
The young man, who is aged in his late teens and was a passenger of the pick-up truck, was taken to Naas General Hospital and pronounced dead a short time after the crash.
The Coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place in due course.
A second man in his late teens, who was driving the vehicle, was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
There were no other injuries reported.
Gardai have closed the road to all traffic since the incident last night.
Local diversions have been put in place and drivers have been urged to allow extra time for their journey.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will examine the scene of the incident this morning.
Gardai confirmed that investigations into the fatal crash are “ongoing” and urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
In a statement this morning, a garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 7.45pm and 8.15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Newbridge Garda Station on (045) 440180, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
FATAL CORK CRASH
Separately, a cyclist who died after being struck by a van in Co Cork has been named locally.
Donal Cashman, aged in his 60s, from Riversfield Estate in Midleton died from injuries he sustained in the road crash.
He was cycling on the N25 at Carrigtwohill towards Midleton when the collision happened at around 4.30pm.
Mr Cashman was a keen cyclist and was on his way home when the accident happened.
He was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination was carried out today.
The male driver of the van, a man in his 60s, received treatment at the scene.
A garda spokesperson said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 4.30pm and 5pm today, Wednesday June 4 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.
