The official trailer for season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty teased which brother Belly will ultimately choose — but does her decision match the book’s outcome?
Prime Video released the full trailer on Wednesday, June 11, which shows Belly (Lola Tung) still stuck between Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
“First loves are important. But they’re not as important as lasts,” Belly says in a voiceover. “I loved [Conrad] in a way that you can only do the first time around. But that is the past. Jeremiah is my future. This is the way it is supposed to be. He is The One.”
The sneak peek teases Belly and Jeremiah at odds with their loved ones after they decide to get married. While Belly wonders if they can make it work even though no one else in their lives supports their decision, Conrad considers telling Belly how he feels — before it is too late.
What Big ‘Changes’ Should ‘Summer I Turned Pretty’ Fans Expect in Season 3?
As fans of Jenny Han‘s Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy already know, Belly made her final choice in We’ll Always Have Summer. The cast and crew, however, have teased that the outcome might not be the same.
“I do feel like there’s a strong chance that that’s a possibility,” Casalegno, 25, exclusively told Us Weekly in June 2023 about the show potentially straying from the original events in the books. “Obviously, I know where [my character Jeremiah] ends up going and what ends up happening. But I don’t emphasize on that. Because I think Jenny writes it so well that I’m able to kind of get there naturally without having to force it in a certain direction.”
Tung, 22, meanwhile, previously explained why she didn’t mind the show making changes on screen.
“The one thing I’ve always admired about Jenny is that every season and every decision about what’s coming next is purely to serve the story,” she told Entertainment Weekly in March. “She’s never going to do anything that doesn’t make sense for the story.”
Tung continued: “It’s all about this beautiful world she’s created and giving the fans something really, really special and giving us something really special to work with.”
Han also hinted that her vision for the show may deviate from the literary canon, telling EW that same month, “There are going to be surprises. There are the things that [book fans] know and then there are things they think they know, and then there’s going to be, hopefully, things that surprise them.”
Prime Video Reveals ‘Summer I Turned Pretty’ Return Date, Teases Love Story
While The Summer I Turned Pretty fans are preparing to say goodbye to the show, the fictional universe isn’t necessarily coming to an end.
“I will say stay tuned, but Jenny’s got some exciting surprises. So we’re thrilled about a season 3, and she’s got a vision for more,” Vernon Sanders, the head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, told Deadline in September 2023. “This show is going to continue to be a huge centerpiece for us, and we absolutely have plans to continue building it. Jenny’s got great vision for where she wants to go with all of it, but we’re already hard at work developing complementary pieces.”
The Summer I Turned Pretty returns to Prime Video on July 16.
