Sony’s Underwhelming June 2025 State of Play Still Managed to Break a Massive Record

Recently, Sony showcased a bunch of video games from its first-party studios during the State of Play 2025 showcase event. Although many fans labeled the event as disappointing, it has managed to break a record. It was the most popular State of Play ever, as it peaked at over 2.2 million live viewers, a figure that previous State of Play events had never achieved. This just proves that PlayStation fans were desperate for new information, but Sony may have left the fans unsatisfied this time.

Sony revealed many new video games, but due to leaks and rumors, fans’ expectations were way too high. In fact, it was quite the opposite of what fans were anticipating. Nonetheless, the event showcased some new, exciting video games.

On June 4, 2025, Sony livestreamed its State of Play showcase event to give fans some “news and updates on must-play games coming to PS5.” On YouTube, the event was livestreamed in English, Japanese, and English Subtitles. The English livestream has managed to tune in over 2.2 million live viewers for the first time in the State of Play’s history. Currently, the video has roughly 2.9 million views on YouTube, so it’s safe to say that fans were really looking forward to this event.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the most viewed PlayStation livestream ever, as PS5 reveal broadcasts and the PS Showcases it aired in 2021 and 2023, respectively, have secured the top spots. On June 8, Sony is hosting another livestream, which will primarily focus on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, one of the most highly anticipated games of 2025.
