Xbox had a rather massive showcase for this year’s Summer Game Fest, bringing with it heavy-hitting titles such as The Outer Worlds 2 and Persona 4 Revival. The showcase also featured Bethesda Softworks, whose role was quite disappointing this time around, to say the least.
In particular, Bethesda barely had anything to show this time around, and long-time fans of the publisher were left sorely disappointed in their inability to show off something a whole lot cooler this time around.
Bethesda showcases the Gone Fission update for Fallout 76
In a rather disappointing turn of events, Bethesda Softworks revealed a teaser for a Fallout project, which simply turned out to be the new Gone Fission update for Fallout 76 instead.

The update released on June 3, 2025, and was a free update for all Fallout 76 players, and is focused on fishing. It’s strange to think that a massively online, multiplayer RPG such as Fallout 76 lacked a fishing mode, but here we are.
As the name implies, players will be tasked with catching irradiated, mutated fish all across Appalachia. There are more than 30 fish to find and index, and most of them can be found located within water bodies (many of which are, curiously enough, irradiated).
Following this, players will be tasked with cooking said collected fish within the Cooking Station, which houses many more recipes.

It’s a rather odd update for sure, and in certain ways kind of disappointing, to say the least. Dragging on your showcase beyond the attention span of an already tense viewer base, which, coupled with the rather lackluster reveal of a Fallout 76 update, did not sit well with most players.
This showcase could have been very easily saved for a future, post-livestream reveal. It does make one wonder whether the team is currently out of ideas, and in lieu of a no-show from either of Bethesda’s top franchises, this does not point to the contrary.
Fans would have much preferred an update to TES VI or Fallout 5 instead
In the words of the YouTuber TheReportOfTheWeek (also known as Reviewbrah), ‘’My Disappointment Is Immeasurable and My Day Is Ruined’ can be used to best describe the current situation we fans of both The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series have come to know today.
Bethesda pulled a sneaky one on us and revealed an update for Fallout, but in the form of a fishing update for Fallout 76. Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with fishing mini-games; it’s just that releasing such a minor update during what is arguably one of the more important showcases in the video game industry just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

While new for Fallout 5 is understandably absent, it should be remembered that it has been several years since The Elder Scrolls VI was officially teased during The Game Awards. Bar that teaser, we have had close to zero information on the game.
This would have been the perfect time to shadow drop some extra tidbits about the game – or even share a real trailer. Things didn’t turn out that way, which remains most unfortunate.
