Netflix’s ‘Castlevania’ Did Nothing Wrong in Bringing Dracula Back

One of the greatest video game adaptations on Netflix, Castlevania has been successful in bringing the story of the dark world of vampires to light in more than one adaptation. The first animated series was a special one, mainly because of one character, and it is none other than Dracula, the main antagonist of the first two seasons, who almost made a return in the third season as well.

Any vampire story is incomplete without mentioning the strongest of all the Vampires who also served as their King. However, what was more interesting about his character was the fact that he made an uncanny comeback during the conclusion of the Castlevania series in season 4.

This return was quite a controversial move from the creators as it was totally out of the blue, and there was not much context given about it. Still, considering Dracula’s significance to the overall narrative of Castlevania as a franchise, they did nothing wrong by bringing him back.

Dracula’s return in Castlevania season 4 made sense

When the Castlevania animated series reached its final conclusion with season 4, the show moved to an unexpected scenario where both Dracula and his wife Lisa return from the dead. They take shelter in an inn and discuss how they came back to life again. While none of them have any answers, the two Castlevania characters decide to use this second chance in the best way possible.

This was one of the most unexpected developments in the history of Castlevania. No one assumed that the story would end with Dracula and Lisa coming back to life, and thus, there was no explanation of it. However, in terms of Dracula’s character within the original game, his return makes total sense as he is literally the undead character.

No matter how many times Dracula succumbs to death, he is brought back to life one way or the other. The Castlevania animated series more or less followed the same development for its characters in the story. Thus, despite the contentious opinion among Castlevania fans about Dracula’s return in the series, it weirdly made sense.

The only controversial aspect of Dracula’s return in Castlevania

As mentioned above, Dracula’s return in the Castlevania animated series was in line with his character from the video game, there is still one aspect of his comeback that annoyed fans the most. It was his decision not to meet with his son Alucard and explain the entire situation to him. This in extension caused a lot of problems for him later on.

Throughout the Castlevania narrative, the one thing that Alucard suffers from is loneliness. He is alone in this world, and this bugs him the most, considering his aging factor. By not telling him about their return to the real world, Dracula and Lisa made him suffer even more through his worst moments for the rest of his life.

Even in Castlevania: Nocturne, Alucard’s character is seen dealing with a similar situation. Thus, even though Dracula’s return to the real world makes sense in Castlevania, it has a small issue that could have been dealt with quite easily.

Castlevania is currently available to watch on Netflix.
