Man, 20s, arrested as gardai seize €170k worth of cannabis & cocaine after ‘vehicle intercepted’ in Kerry

A MAN has been arrested after €170,000 worth of drugs was seized by the Gardai in Co Kerry.

The haul was made after the cops “intercepted a vehicle” in Listowel yesterday.

Gardai from Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit and local Crime Unit have seized a significant quantity of drugs and arrested a man as part of Operation Tara.

It was also a part of the ongoing investigations targeting the sale and distribution of controlled drugs and associated criminal activity in the Southern Region.

Operation Tara is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in 2021.

The incident occurred shortly after 10pm and they recovered a substantial quantity of cannabis and cocaine, with an estimated street value of €170,000.

The vehicle’s driver, a man in his 20s, was arrested at the scene.

He is currently being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in Co Kerry.

The spokesperson for the Gardai stated that “investigations are ongoing” and further updates will follow.

They said: “As part of Operation Tara and ongoing investigations targeting the sale and distribution of controlled drugs and associated criminal activity in the Southern Region, Gardaí from the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit and local Crime Unit have seized a significant quantity of drugs and arrested one male during an operation carried out in County Kerry on Friday, 13th June 2025.

“Shortly after 10pm on Friday night, Gardaí intercepted a vehicle in Listowel and recovered a substantial quantity of cannabis and cocaine. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of over €170,000.

“The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was arrested at the scene. He is currently being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in County Kerry.


“The drugs will be sent for analysis to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI).”

Separately, a man has been arrested after gardai seized almost €120,000 worth of drugs and €9,500 in cash in West Dublin.

Cops carried out a search in Finglas as part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs.

During the search op, cannabis, cocaine ketamine, drugs paraphernalia and cash were discovered.

DRUGS FIND

Gardai found cannabis herb valued at €114,940, cocaine with an estimated value of €3,010 and ketamine valued at €1,500.

They also seized €9,500 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime, along with drugs paraphernalia.

The man, aged in his 20s, was arrested and taken to a Garda Station in the capital. 

The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for examination and analysis.

Gardai confirmed the “investigations are ongoing”.
