Coming out on 8th August 2025, Mafia: The Old Country is set in the early 20th century, and aims to not just deliver another crime sandbox, but rather give the player a time capsule to explore. Imagine this: cobblestoned streets to vintage cars running around, all the while following the story of Enzo Favara climbing the ranks of crime in Sicily back then.
Think Red Dead Redemption’s attention to detail, but swapped with an old Italian background with Mafia detailing and mob families. The premises offered by the game are enough to keep players like me occupied for a while and forget all about the unfortunate GTA 6 delay for a while.
Gameplay-wise, the upcoming game feels like a glorious blend of Red Dead Redemption’s plot and GTA’s open-world freedom served to you on a silver platter. Furthermore, what makes the game stand out is how committed it seems to be to historical authenticity.
Mafia: The Old Country is going to be a worthwhile experience
While it sounds like it’s gunning for GTA’s spot, it isn’t. Mafia: The Old Country aims to introduce a completely different game, perhaps a world where the powerplay among different mobs and gangs becomes the very thing that dictates your gameplay experience, rather than just loud guns or fast cars.
The very way it handles the narrative of the Italian mob culture is exactly what makes Mafia: The Old Country engaging. Where GTA often leans into the world of modern crime, this upcoming title will seemingly deliver something closer to what The Godfather delivered in the cinemas.
So yes, GTA 6 is delayed. But for once, I’m not counting the days. Mafia: The Old Country has stepped in not as a filler but as a genuine contender.
