John Cena’s Evil Move to Offer CM Punk a Match at Saudi Arabia Explained

When we think of the most outspoken and brash WWE Superstar, the name CM Punk tops the list. The star has been vocal about anything and everything that hampers the people’s peace and would even go as far as challenging the higher-ups of the company. This was most evident a decade back when he dropped his infamous “Pipebomb” promo.

For the record, Punk prefers to keep his record straight and be very vocal about his professional relationships. Now, it comes as no surprise that CM Punk has been missing out on title opportunities since his return in 2023 and has expressed his dissatisfaction over it.

His potential was noticed by a heel Cena, offering him a shot at his title. The condition? A face-off at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia, a pure evil move from the champ.

John Cena’s evil master plan that compels CM Punk to visit Saudi Arabia for a title shot

The relationship between CM Punk and Saudi Arabia has long been a controversial one, and he has not refrained from speaking his mind, which has sometimes brought him under fire. The heat was evident back in 2020 via X, when The Miz took a shot at him when he retorted the “change the culture” line from Punk’s backstage interview.

The Voice of the Voiceless was infuriated and told his fellow colleague to “go suck a blood money covered d**k in Saudi Arabia you f**king d*rk.” Since his comments, he has not performed at any of WWE’s premium live events taking place in Saudi Arabia. The fans have often wondered why he hated the country so passionately and even asked this question during one of his Q&A sessions on Instagram via Fightful.

The former IC Champion gave an intriguing answer, claiming he does not have any hate for the Middle Eastern country. He said,

I don’t hate coming to Saudi, I’ve never been to Saudi.

With World Wrestling Entertainment returning to Saudi Arabia on June 28, 2025, for its exclusive show, Night of Champions, fans had their fair share of doubts about whether they would see Punk because of his past comments. All those doubts came to an end on the most recent segment of Monday Night RAW via YouTube, when John Cena came up with the idea of one more Cena vs. Punk match, that too for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

The fans started shouting “Yes” chants in hopes of witnessing an iconic match one more time, but in typical heel Cena fashion, he had a controversial catch: “Not tonight.” The Moment Maker said that for a match like this, “You’re gonna follow me to Saudi Arabia” because the venue is Night of Champions, and now Punk has to make the decision.

The comment changed the facial expression of the Second City Saint, but in the end, he caved in and agreed to strip him of the “corrupted” title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The WWE Universe praises John Cena for being the ultimate heel

What. A. Move. Ever since Cena sold his soul to the Final Boss, Dwayne Johnson, at the 2025 Elimination Chamber, he has looked like a changed man. From calling out the fans to winning the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41, he has been praised for defenestrating the hesitation that has cost him numerous matches in the past.

However, the move of getting under the skin of the viewers and his locker room colleagues by going personal is something that nobody thought he would do. But each time he pulls out a move like this, it leads to a more epic drama. This time, it was at the expense of CM Punk, turning his Saudi Arabia hate into a story. The fans are impressed on social media, leaving comments that praise the Prototype. The users tweeted,

Controversial or not, the idea of watching The GOAT and The Best in the World in another crowd-pleaser match would always be iconic. But this time, it would be more than a title match; these two were hurling personal insults and claiming how one was better than the other.

Night of Champions will take place on June 28, 2025, at 1 PM ET on Peacock in the U.S. and Netflix internationally.
