The second season of Dandadan, involving the Evil Eye and its battle with Momo and Okarun, is soon going to be released, and fans can’t wait for it. The upcoming season will have a lot of special elements that have the entire fanbase excited, and one of the most important ones among them is definitely Jiji’s transformation as the Evil Eye.
Jiji has been a fan favorite character ever since he was introduced in the first season of Dandadan. His unique personality and his interactions with Momo and Okarun make him a special character, but there is one particular instance where Dandadan fans were really impressed by Jiji’s character within the series.
This instance was during the final episode of Dandadan season 1 when Jiji was seen having a “soccer battle” with Okarun. Dandadan’s director, Abel Gongora, recently revealed that he took a big risk with Jiji’s character during the match, and it worked in his favor within the story.
Abel Gongora’s risk with Jiji’s skills as a soccer player
Anime News Network recently shared a small part of an interview involving Gongora, where he is asked about the final soccer clash between Okarun and Jiji, and whether he included any soccer player references or visual touchstones for putting it together. He pointed out that while there were no such references, he had huge expectations of Jiji’s skills as a soccer player, which almost looked like martial arts.

Gongora stated:
I wanted Jiji to do flips in the air and be more crazy. Actually, all the movements are made from real movements people can do, and I found that some athletes can do these jumps, and it’s almost like martial arts. Of course, they don’t hit a ball, but I wanted to mix both concepts, and I was really amazed by those videos.
Gongora pointed out that all of Jiji’s movements in Dandadan are made from real movements that people can do, which involve athletic jumps that were almost like martial arts. While it didn’t involve a soccer ball, he still mixed both sports and was amazed by the videos.
While taking references from a sport other than soccer was a bold move, it definitely worked for Jiji’s character in Dandadan. It not only added another layer to his personality but also hinted at his skills that will be a part of the upcoming season.
Jiji’s skills will be the highlight of Dandadan season 2
Although Dandadan season 1 didn’t show Jiji doing much action, it is safe to say that the second season will exclusively put a focus on it. From the beginning of the Dandadan storyline, Jiji has been portrayed as a character who is quite strong and athletic, which also results in Okarun being jealous of him most of the time.
However, we are yet to see him use this athleticism in battle or combat sequences, and hopefully, he will do it in the upcoming season. His transformation as the Evil Eye will have a lot of battle and action scenes, against Okarun especially, and thus it would highlight Jiji’s skills as a character within the Dandadan storyline.

Hopefully, Science SARU has done a wonderful job in portraying Jiji’s skill, as a major chunk of Dandadan season 2’s success depends on it. Fans will get to find out about it on July 3, 2025, when the second season of the series will be released.
Dandadan is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
