Recently, there’s been a lot of speculation about one possible upcoming plot twist in One Piece, and it seems like some fans are cooking up some interesting theories. This is about who Luffy’s mother is? And Oda may have already hinted at the answer in the recent chapter.
Unlike the many fan theories before, which failed to uncover the real identity of Luffy’s mom, this one sounds quite legit. It’s highly likely that Garp’s wife, Gunko, might just be this enigmatic figure we are all waiting for.
This idea has sparked a lot of discussion, especially after Chapter 1151. Some fans even believe her character might hold more significance than initially thought, and her love for music could be the reason behind it!
The recent revelation in One Piece suggests Gunko is Luffy’s mom

The speculation started right after chapter 1151 got released, where Imu seemed to possess Gunko and unleashed a massive Conqueror’s Haki blast. Then something interesting happened following this incident.
Luffy’s reaction to this event seemed quite unusual. Was it that Luffy recognized Gunko’s Haki because she’s his mom, which would explain his calm response to the powerful blast? If so, Gunko is not escaping Luffy’s biological mother suspicions.
This draws some more credibility after Oda’s response in SBS volume 78, where he mentioned that “mother” is the antonym of “adventure” in his mind. This could imply that Luffy’s mom would be an antagonist in the final war, potentially possessed by Imu.
The age and timeline also seem to fit, with Gunko’s possible age matching Dragon’s age of 55. There are even numerous similarities between Gunko’s appearance and the revolutionary army’s style. Plus, Gunko’s left eye seems similar to the “messed-up eye” symbol associated with the Monkey D. family!
If this theory turns out to be true, it would give birth to multiple narrative possibilities and potential implications for the overall storyline. If Gunko is indeed Luffy’s mom, it would be a significant plot twist. We would also get to know the answers about her past, her connection to the Celestial Dragons, and even her potential role in the final war.
Why does Gunko being Luffy’s mother make so much sense

Gunko, being Luffy’s mom, seems to fit perfectly with the storyline. It would explain why Garp distances himself from the Celestial Dragons and why Dragon became a revolutionary. If she really was kidnapped by the Celestial Dragons, it would make sense why Dragon wanted to hide Luffy.
The potential connection between Gunko and the D. Clan is another intriguing aspect. It would fit with the theme of Luffy being a special individual, destined for greatness. Imu might’ve kidnapped Gunko to prevent her from having a child with Dragon.
Also, being a D. Clan member, the symbolism of the half moon and full moon could be crucial in unlocking Luffy’s true potential. The idea that Luffy’s parents both being D. Clan members would make him a “full moon” is an interesting concept that adds further credibility to this theory.

Plus, we also know Imu possessed Gunko during the same chapter as Dragon’s move. Doesn’t it sound too exact to be a coincidence? It might’ve been a deliberate move by Imu to taunt Dragon and hinder his plans.
While none of this is confirmed, the narrative fits together surprisingly well. This theory does provide a very compelling explanation for the characters’ motivations and actions. Knowing Oda’s way of foreshadowing, this may not be too far from the truth. So, do you believe this theory will age well?
