‘Gachiakuta’ Just Debunked a Major Jabber Controversy With Its New Main PV

2025 is the year when several amazing manga series will receive an anime adaptation, and on July 6th, Gachiakuta will be debuting on Crunchyroll. The manga is fairly new, but fans have been waiting for it to be animated. The unique and creative character designs were one of the main reasons people got into it so heavily.

Since Gachiakuta was limited to manga panels, there was one character’s design that was praised, but also became controversial. Jabber Wonger, an antagonist in the series, dons dreadlocks. However, the monochrome manga illustrations have given him rather light skin, unlike Semiu Grier and Arkha Corvus, who are discernible as Black characters.

With the anime adaptation coming up, it could either escalate or resolve the controversy. The preview for Gachiakuta was released today, and it thankfully revealed that Bones Film chose to do justice to Jabber Wonger’s character and what fans had hoped to see from his design.

Gachiakuta confirms that Jabber Wonger has tanned skin

One of the best parts about Gachiakuta is the variety of races and skin colors involved in the storyline. Kei Urana isn’t afraid of having Black characters with a spectrum of skin color and realistic designs. Their looks aren’t exaggerated or given offensive stereotypes.

However, because of the manga, Jabber Wonger looked like a fair-skinned person with dreadlocks, which fans did not appreciate. If it were true, it would’ve felt like a mockery of that hairstyle, considering he’s a psychotic villain with violent tendencies. Thankfully, the anime adaptation took it upon itself to debunk this controversy and put our minds at ease.

On 6th June, 2025, the preview trailer for Gachiakuta was released on their YouTube channel, “GACHIAKUTA” Anime Official Channel. The animation looks amazing, and the song at the end has us hyped. What caught our eyes, too, was Jabber Wonger’s design.

It confirms that Jabber does indeed have tanned skin, confirming that he’s a Black character. Fans on X also praise the series for having several Black characters, rather than just the villain being the only one.

What makes this reveal amazing is that it affirms the fans who believed he was a light-skinned or mixed-race Black character all along and related to him because he looked like them.

The inclusivity in Gachiakuta makes it even better

Although the manga created confusion over Jabber’s skin color, biracial fans still related to him since he looked like them.

The fact that Kei Urana didn’t limit her characters to lighter-skinned and typical Japanese or Western features shows how she wanted to be inclusive with her work rather than boring.

It also allows fans to connect with different characters since, in the anime industry, we don’t get to see many dark-skinned or biracial characters. It helps that Semiu Grier and Arkha Corvus are incredibly cool and attractive, too, rather than being given exaggerated and unrealistic features.

Gachiakuta might just be one of the best modern series in the anime industry right now. The art is incredible, and Bones Film’s adaptation looks promising. We cannot wait for it to come out next month.

Gachiakuta will release on 6th July, 2025, on Crunchyroll.
