There’s something so electrifying about watching an artist transform not just a character, but an entire conversation about identity, power, and visibility. Hunter Schafer has managed to do exactly this, and her bold walks on the runway to her breakout role in Euphoria have turned her into an emerging star.
And now, as the rumor mill churns, it seems like Schafer might have her next big breakthrough in the industry, but this time on a much bigger and global scale. So what’s all the buzz about her and Marvel, and who will she seemingly play by joining the MCU? Let’s find out!
Hunter Schafer’s rise and the buzz around her casting in Marvel

If you’ve followed Hunter Schafer, you know she’s not just an actress but a force, and from the start, she has stood for people. Her runway career was nothing short of stellar, as she modeled for high-end brands such as Marc Jacobs, Dior, Prada, and Calvin Klein.
But it was in 2019, with her role as Jules Vaughn in Euphoria, that she became a part of mainstream conversations because she didn’t just act, but lived the role. Fast forward to 2024, Schafer was a part of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and the psychological horror titled Cuckoo. Now, let’s get to the recent rumors, which suggest that she could possibly be cast for a role by Marvel, and fans are already excited to see her as Mystique.

In February, ComicBookMovie reported that she was indeed being considered to play Raven Darkhölme, aka Mystique, in the upcoming MCU movies. While there is no official word from Marvel, the hype is real! Previously, the character has been played by Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence. So what could make Schafer the next evolution in X-Men’s upcoming reboot?
Who is Mystique? Why Hunter Schafer fits the role perfectly

Mystique is not your average character, she’s one of the most complex figures in the Marvel universe. Her powers are well known: she can mimic any person down to their voice, retina, and fingerprints, and doesn’t age like the rest of us, plus she is agile and a formidable opponent in battle.
But Mystique’s real power isn’t physical, it’s emotional because she’s been a mother, a government operative, a lover, and a traitor. Her storylines have explored many complicated relationships, and she’s never just good or bad, but she’s certainly an embodiment of survival.
Hunter Schafer could make a great Mystique because she understands identity on a deeper level, being a transgender woman and an advocate for the community. Plus, she has range, and the character demands the level of nuance that we’ve already seen the actress depict in Euphoria. So, it’s a golden opportunity for Marvel to get her on board and feature Mystique’s previously unexplored arcs.
