Black Myth Wukong is finally coming to Xbox on August 20, 2025, which is exactly one year after its global release on PS5 and PC. According to several fans, this is alarming as there were whispers regarding a “secret” deal between Sony and Game Science, the game’s developers. While the game’s director has repeatedly confirmed that there is no deal, fans can’t stop thinking about it.
Fans certainly believe that Game Science secretly made a one-year exclusivity deal with Sony to outperform its rival. Such rumors were spread in the past, too; however, there isn’t any evidence that can solidify the accusation against Sony. Hence, it remains an unsolved mystery whether a deal was signed between the two companies.
Was there a PS5-exclusivity deal between Sony and Black Myth Wukong?

As stated above, Feng Ji, the game’s producer and director, has confirmed that they didn’t sign any exclusivity deal with Sony. The reason why they delayed the launch of this game on Xbox Series X|S is that they couldn’t optimize it on time. According to the developer’s team, it was extremely difficult for them to enhance the quality and overall experience of the game on Microsoft’s console, especially the Xbox Series S.
As you can see on the game’s official FAQ page, the developers have clearly answered the question about the delay on Xbox by saying this:
Bringing Black Myth: Wukong to Xbox Series X|S—and ensuring the experience met our internal quality standards—was no easy feat. Fortunately, we were able to complete this challenging task smoothly within the first year of the game’s official release.
Rumors about PS5 exclusivity caught fire when the Xbox release date was revealed as August 20, 2025. It seems that August 20 carries some value for the developers. Jokes aside, this is the exact same date on which this game was revealed through a pre-alpha gameplay trailer in 2020.
With that being said, the rumors about Game Science signing a deal with Sony are alleged. No concrete proof can cement this accusation and prove that PS5 kept the developers from releasing it on Xbox.
