DC’s ‘Mister Miracle’: Everything We Know So Far

Well, it looks like the DC Universe just got a little more miraculous. Yep, James Gunn is finally cracking open the cosmic toybox again, but this time, he’s pulling out Mister Miracle, the escape artist, New God, and all-around legend in a spandex suit. You heard it right. DC’s next animated series is officially in the works, and trust us, it’s about to be a wild ride through Apokolips, Boom Tubes, and more than a few existential crises.

Following the success of Creature Commandos, DC Studios clearly isn’t afraid to get weird, and Mister Miracle might just be their quirkiest leap yet. With Gunn and Peter Safran shaping the future of DC through animation and live-action, this new take on Scott Free promises to deliver high-stakes action, cosmic drama, and maybe even a talking Mother Box or two. So, buckle up, because this isn’t your average superhero cartoon; it’s literal Miracle-level madness.

DC is officially getting its wonderful and weird back on with Mister Miracle, and yes, it’s as wild as it sounds. The legendary comic writer Tom King, who already gave us one of the most mind-bending takes on Scott Free in the pages of DC, is now bringing the escape artist to animated life as production is underway. While we don’t have a release date or cast yet, Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that the show is happening.

And guess what? The original writer, Tom King, isn’t just writing; he’s actually running the whole escape show as executive producer and showrunner. Now that’s what we call a plot twist worthy of Mister Miracle himself. Don’t you agree?

So, what exactly is Mister Miracle all about? Well, let’s just say it’s not your average superhero show. The new show comes with cosmic daddy issues, existential dread, war trauma, and a healthy dose of surrealist escape artistry. Based on Tom King and Mitch Gerads’ Eisner Award–winning comic, the animated series will follow Scott Free, aka Mister Miracle, the greatest escape artist in the universe, who might just be trapped in the biggest illusion of all time–his own mind.

Scott’s got it all, or so it seems. A perfect life on Earth with his battle-axe-wielding wife, Big Barda, fame, fans, and one epic costume. But behind the smiles and TV appearances? Yeah, things are going very sideways. With a war erupting between their home worlds, Apokolips and New Genesis, and Darkseid finally cracking the Anti-Life Equation (that thing that basically turns free will into cosmic toast), Scott’s being pulled into the emotional deep end.

The twist? The biggest prison isn’t Apokolips. It’s inside his head.

The show promises a rollercoaster of pain, love, cosmic warfare, dark comedy, and introspection that is both weird and profound. “Can Mister Miracle escape death itself?” That’s the real trick. The logline hints at everything from mind-warping realities to reality-shattering heartbreak, all while juggling space politics and deeply personal demons. And yes, probably a lot of dramatic stares into the void.

If this does land inside James Gunn’s new DCU timeline, it also means Darkseid might already be sliding back into canon with those glowing red eyes and a thirst for universal domination. (Great.)

Also worth noting- Tom King, who was once working on a New Gods movie that got scrapped faster than you can say “Boom Tube,” is now finally getting to tell his Mister Miracle tale his way. Call it a redemption arc for both Scott Free and his creator.

Bottom line: this isn’t just a superhero story, it’s a cosmic therapy session in animation form.

Well, let’s start with this: he’s not just a superhero; he’s the Houdini of the cosmos with serious trauma, a killer cape, and a whole lot of daddy issues (thanks, Darkseid). Born as Scott Free, yes, that’s his real name, he’s a literal New God, traded like a cosmic Pokémon in a political peace pact between Highfather of New Genesis and Darkseid of Apokolips.

Raised in Granny Goodness’ nightmare orphanage, Scott grew up dodging death traps and torture, then decided, “You know what? I’m out,” and made the ultimate jailbreak, from a whole planet.

Once on Earth, he teamed up with Oberon, fell madly in love with Big Barda (his battle-hardened wife and certified queen), and started a side hustle as the world’s top escape artist. The dude can slip out of anything, prisons, chains, psychic control, bad contracts with Manga Khan, you name it.

Jack Kirby created him in 1971, with Scott making his debut in Mister Miracle #1. Since then, Mister Miracle has starred in mind-bending comics, joined the Justice League, clashed with existential dread, and most recently headlined Tom King’s award-winning series, which mixed space opera with surreal domestic drama.

Also, fun fact: he’s so good at escaping, he once dodged death and emotional vulnerability in the same issue. Now that’s range.
