Huge skip has been left abandoned on my driveway for WEEKS – now I’m stuck in row to remove it… it’s an absolute joke

A HOMEOWNER is considering taking legal action to try to get a skip shifted off his drive.

Peter Critchley paid £200 to hire the skip from Staffordshire Waste Recycling Centre, in Longport, “for a day”, he says.

A month after the skip was supposed to be shifted, it’s still there[/caption]

But more than month later it remains stuck on his Norton driveway.

It comes as Staffordshire Waste Recycling Centre has had its general waste permit suspended by the Environment Agency since April.

Peter, 42, StokeonTrentLive: “We were just having a good clear out. We were getting some stuff out of our old wardrobes and having a good spring clean.

“We found we actually had quite a bit to get rid of so we hired a skip for the weekend.

“We literally only needed it for the day because everything was already in the back garden, ready to go.

“I rang them to pick it up and they said ‘Yeah no problem’.

“It didn’t happen that day, but I thought, ‘Oh fair enough, the weekend’s coming up. It’ll be Monday or Tuesday’.

“And then I just heard nothing.”

Peter struggles to walk due to a neurological disorder. He says the situation has taken a physical and financial toll on his everyday life.

“It’s been an absolute nightmare,” he explained. “I can’t walk very far so I need my drive.

“I can’t plug in my electric car. I’m having to pay four times as much to charge it at a public charging point.

“Some days now I’m having to get my wheelchair out just to get up my drive.

“But I should be able to just get out of my car and walk into my own house without having to do that.

“It’s just an absolute joke. I am looking into whether it’s worth getting solicitors involved. Because the cost is just ridiculous.

“I’ve paid £200 to have a skip for a day and now I’m having to fork out £20 a week extra recharging my car. How am I going to get reimbursed for all this.”

Its website states: “There may be delays in skip collections until further notice.

“We kindly ask that customers continue to work with us for skip collections, as arranging alternative disposal or third-party operators may lead to complications, including potential legal ramifications.

“Your patience and cooperation during this time is greatly appreciated and we are committed to restoring full operations as soon as possible while ensuring compliance with all regulations.”

An Environment Agency spokesman said: “Staffordshire Waste Recycling Centre is storing more waste than is authorised by the conditions of its environmental permit and in a manner that poses a serious risk of pollution.

“We have therefore suspended one of the company’s two environmental permits and are taking action to encourage the company to keep the amount of waste it stores within acceptable limits.”

The Sun has approached Staffordshire Waste Recycling Centre for comment.

THE HISTORY OF DUNNES STORES

DUNNES Stores opened its first store on Patrick Street in Cork in 1944 - and it was an instant hit.

Shoppers from all over the city rushed to the store to snap up quality clothing at pre-war prices in Ireland’s first ‘shopping frenzy’.

During the excitement, a window was forced in and the police had to be called to help control the crowds hoping to bag founder Ben Dunne’s ‘Better Value’ bargains.

Dunnes later opened more stores in the 1950s and began to sell groceries in 1960 – starting with apples and oranges.

The retailer said: “Fruit was expensive at the time and Ben Dunne yet again offered Better Value than anyone else in town.

“Over time, our food selection has grown and that spirit of good value has remained strong.

“Now we offer a wide range of carefully-sourced foods from both local Irish suppliers and overseas.”

The retailer’s first Dublin store opened its doors in 1957 on Henry Street and a super store on South Great Georges Street was unveiled in 1960.

They added: “In 1971, our first Northern Irish store opened, and many others soon followed.

“Expansion continued in the 1980s in Spain, and later into Scotland and England.”

Dunnes now has 142 stores and employs 15,000 people.

Major car brand ‘plotting return’ of discontinued model that starred in iconic James Bond scene 46 years ago

A MAJOR brand could bring back a discontinued model which appeared in an iconic James Bond scene.

Citroen is biding its time over whether to bring back the iconic retro 2CV.

It earned its stripes as a French economy car and is recognised for revitalising post-war France.

The iconic car is seen here in the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only[/caption]

The 2CV was nicknamed Deux Chevaux, translating to “two horses” referring to its tax horsepower rating.

The 2CV featured in the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only in a scene where Bond jumps into the passenger seat of co-star Melina Havelock’s yellow car, heading off the twisty mountain roads, while Hector Gonzalez’s men give chase in a pair of Peugeot 504 sedans.

Bond eventually takes the wheel and the car enjoys a bone-rattling climax that sees it hurtling through olive trees.

He then crisscrosses the road, before jumping over a pursuing Peugeot and bumping its offside-rear wheel on the sedan’s roof.

The scene was filmed in Corfu over 12 days and the car was one of several 2CVs used in the filming.

While four are known to have survived filming, at least two were scrapped when production ended.

“We have a very, very strong heritage, one of the richest in the car industry,” then-Citroen boss Thierry Koskas told Auto Express.

“We have the 2CV, the Traction Avant, the DS: amazing cars known all over the world.

“I absolutely agree that one of the big strengths of European brands is their heritage.

“On the product side, we are not taking it as a general direction to do  retro design.

“But I do not exclude that maybe we study and [have] some exploration, we are open to look at that.

“But at Citroen you will not see all the future cars reminding you of previous models.

“You will have people that value a design that is close to a car they used to love in the past. This is the debate.

“But there have been successes and failures in [automotive] revivals.

“Some fail because [companies] don’t position the car properly, they seem retro but aren’t really, or customers don’t really like the car or recognise their love story.

“So if we were to do it, we would have to be very, very careful and cautious about how we did it.”

‘What a feeling’ – Topless Steve Bunting copies Luke Littler as he sleeps with Nordic Darts Masters Trophy

STEPHEN BUNTING is going global as he tries to prove his Premier League flop was a one-off.

The Bullet, 40, picked up a second World Series of Darts title this year on Saturday night as he beat Rob Cross 8-4 in the final in Copenhagen.

The 40-year-old took his trophy to his hotel room after beating Rob Cross in the final[/caption]

Bunting, ranked fourth in the world, slept with the Nordic Darts Masters trophy in his hotel room before catching a flight home to the UK.

The 40-year-old channelled his inner-Lionel Messi as he posted a cheeky topless snap of him cuddling up with the gong – just like rival Luke Littler.

He wrote on X: “Good morning Copenhagen! What a great feeling waking up along side this beauty.”

Bunting’s performances were a contrast to the misery he had endured during the 17-week Prem where he suffered 12 first-round losses.

Finishing bottom of the eight-man table would have rocked the confidence of lesser men.

But the St Helens thrower – whose ‘Bunting Mental’ shtick is growing around the world – has always believed he can cope with the elite in knockout events.

Trips to New York, Poland, Australia and New Zealand this summer could consolidate his position at the top of the rankings for this invitational series.

He said: “Listen, in the Premier League, you’re playing the best players in the world.

BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UK

“For whatever reason, it just didn’t happen for me. I said to my management and family, I won’t lose heart. I still believe.

“I put in some really good performances. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

“It was a long time since I had been in the Premier League, 10 years in fact, and it was like going back to a new school this year. I was proud of myself towards the end.

“I have shown how good I can be, especially on the World Series.

“I believe I am consistent. My doubles have let me down in the last two months.

“Sometimes I have to pinch myself. I know how good I can be. It’s dog-eat-dog out there. I’m glad to be up there in the rankings.

“These aren’t ranked tournaments. I will take these wins. It’s all about gaining confidence, it’s like a snowball effect.

“Hopefully this can rub off in the likes of the World Matchplay and other ProTours. I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

“When I went out in the arena, I saw the scarves, the shirts, the ‘Bunting Mental’ hats and cheers and chants.

“It was a great venue. The crowd rooted for me and got me through my games.”

Israeli military ‘will do whatever it takes’ to stop Greta Thunberg’s ‘Freedom Flotilla’ reaching Gaza as boat nears

ISRAEL’S military has been ordered to do “whatever it takes” to stop Greta Thunberg’s boat from reaching Gaza.

The 22-year-old climate activist is among 12 people aboard the Madleen, which departed Sicily last Sunday under the banner of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition.

CATANIA, ITALY - JUNE 01: Just before the departure of the Madleen, the Freedom Flotilla vessel, a young man raises the Palestinian flag from a pedal boat as other boats fly the same flag off the port of San Giovanni Li Cuti on June 01, 2025 in Catania, Italy. Swedish activist Greta Thunberg is among those who will attempt to sail to Gaza on a boat organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), in a bid to break Israel's blockade of the Palestinian territory. The group says its mission is to break Israel’s long-standing sea blockade and deliver urgent aid to the war-torn enclave.

But Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant issued a blunt warning as the vessel entered the final stretch of its journey: “You should turn back – because you will not reach Gaza.”

In a post on X, Gallant said he had given the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) a green light to intervene: “I have instructed the IDF to act so that the ‘Madeleine’ hate flotilla does not reach the shores of Gaza – and to take any means necessary to that end.

“To the anti-Semitic Greta and her fellow Hamas propaganda spokespeople, I say clearly: You should turn back – because you will not reach Gaza.

“Israel will act against any attempt to break the blockade or assist terrorist organizations – at sea, in the air and on land.”

Alongside Thunberg is Rima Hassan, a French member of the European parliament of Palestinian descent.

She has previously been barred from entering Israel due to her outspoken criticism of the country’s policies towards Palestinians.
