Bobby George: Eric Bristow could be a pain in the a**e, but his death hit me hard… he was only 60 for f***’s sake

BOBBY GEORGE has opened up on the passing of his great rival Eric Bristow – and admits he warned the darts great to slow down.

Bristow died suddenly of a heart attack in 2018 aged just 60.

Bristow was a five-time world champ and beat George in the 1980 final[/caption]

George, 79, and The Crafty Cockney faced off on the oche throughout the 1980s.

Bristow was the face of darts in that era, winning five BDO World Championship titles.

He was also known for his hell-raising antics away from the sport – and was rarely seen without a pint in his hand.

George, who met Bristow as a teenager, remembers: “He could be a pain in the a***,

“We had some right ding-dongs over the years.

“But for most of the time, he was my mate and we had some great times together.”

Bristow memorably beat George in the 1980 World Championship final.

It was Bristow’s first crown, with the Hackney-born star going on to repeat the trick in 1981, 1984, 1985 and 1986.

King of Bling was somewhat in Bristow’s shadow, winning two major BDO titles during his career.

And he was left stunned by Bristow’s untimely passing seven years ago.

He wrote in his autobiography: “Eric Bristow’s death hit me hard.

“He was only 60 for f***’s sake. That’s no age these days, is it?

“I had known him since he was a teenager – and he never changed.”

George admits Bristow wasn’t one to follow health advice – despite trying to give it to him.

He continued: “Anyone who knew him was aware that he didn’t exactly lead a healthy lifestyle.

When I go, I’ll go like that. Bang.

Eric Bristow

“For as long as I’d known him, he was a heavy smoker, always rolling his own.

“And he would think nothing of getting through 15 or 16 pints of Guinness in a day, rounding it all off with a curry.

“Nobody’s body can handle that day in, day out.

“I’d say, ‘You smoke and you drink too much.’

“He said, ‘I know all about that, Bob. But put it this way – no one is going to be pushing me around in a wheelchair. When I go, I’ll go like that. Bang.’

“And he f***ing did as well. Bang.”

Dan and wife Jacqueline have shared pictures on Instagram of their trip away with the kids.

Putting on a united front, the couple revealed they had enjoyed a weekend in Ireland.

Sharing the pictures on Instagram, the couple looked happy as they spent time with their children.

They could be seen enjoying country walks and some family time.

CHRISTINE TEXTS

The family’s trip away comes just days after The Sun exclusively revealed how Jacqueline’s husband Dan had previously sent flirty texts with Christine McGuiness.

Dan had joined Christine for raucous nights out that helped lift her spirits after her split from radio and TV host husband Paddy.

At the time, reality star Dan was still building bridges with Jacqueline over previous cheating claims.

Our source said of Christine and Dan’s texts: “She is absolutely adamant nothing sexual happened between them.

“She also was 100 per cent single at the time and could chat to anyone she wanted.”

Former Towie star Dan is adamant nothing happened romantically between the pair, even suggesting that the text messages between them were “deep fakes or AI” when asked.

Shortly after his Christine texts were revealed, Dan posted a grovelling message on one of wife Jacqueline’s Instagram post.

It came after the EastEnders star posted a stunning photo in a plunging black gown a few days ago.

She captioned her post: “BRITISH SOAP AWARDS 2025. Celebrating 40 years of EASTENDERS with 8 wins isn’t too bad.”

Dan commented beneath it: “Beautiful!” and the comment was liked by hundreds of people.

A pal said: “Dan is devoted to Jacqueline and would hate for any suggestion of impropriety.

“Of course, it’s possible for a man and woman to be mates.”

Earlier this year, The Sun revealed Dan had moved out of his and Jacqueline’s home and into a property he had bought behind his wife’s back.

Both temporarily removed their wedding rings.

Jessie posted this message to her Instagram stories[/caption]

The former Voice coach, who shares a son with basketball player Chanan Colman, opened up about the sad news on Instagram.

In an emotional post she told fans: “I was diagnosed with early breast cancer.”

She added: “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early’.”

Now, the brave star has taken to Instagram with a new health update for her 13million followers.

She posted a statement reading: “Honesty time.

“Had my worst day yesterday so far since my diagnosis and the busiest 3 months I have had in years.

“Work. Toddler. Cancer. Life etc had my mind,” the star then inputted a string of lighting emojis.

Jessie continued: “Panic attacks/ tears/ big fears/ anger/ overwhelm. Bad.

“And you know what helped?”

Jessie playfully went on: “I ate corn on the cob. Turns out it’s extremely hard to panic or cry while eating one.

“Highly recommend. Instant mood shift.”

Jessie finished by writing: “Tomorrow is a new day. The rollercoaster of cancer.

“I won’t just be talking about the highlights. And making jokes all the time. That isn’t real life.

“Goodnight. Hug ya peoples.”

The former Voice coach first opened up about the sad news on Instagram last week.

The singer said she would be undergoing surgery after performing at the Summertime Ball in London on June 15.

“It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job,” she joked.

She told fans she was hesitant about going public about her diagnosis but that she decided to be “open” for multiple reasons.

She said: “One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough.

“I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I’m an open book.”

The Grammy nominee, who also shared her ADHD and OCD diagnoses with fans earlier this year, added that she hoped to show solidarity with other cancer patients.

She said: “It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse — that’s the bit that kills me.”

Referring to her latest tracks No Secrets and Living My Best Life, she said “you can’t make it up” – explaining she had no idea about her diagnosis at the time of recording.

Fans and fellow celebs jumped into the comments to share their support.

TV and radio personality Gaby Roslin said: “Sending you so much love and enormous hugs”.

One fan added: “Love you and your light! This won’t dim you down”.

While another said: “You are not alone. May your recovery be gentle, peaceful, and full of healing. Sending you a tight hug and all the love my heart can carry.”

Fire TV Sticks receive free sports boost that fixes common streaming issue

MILLIONS of Fire TV Stick owners are set to receive a big boost from BBC iPlayer that aims to end buffering.

The broadcaster is aiming to reduce the lag experienced by streamers watching live sports, ahead of the Wimbledon championships.

The goal is to cut the delay between the version of BBC Two broadcast via Freeview, satellite and cable and the iPlayer[/caption]

Fans watching on traditional TV can sometimes be ahead of the action.

This is especially the case if your house has slow Wi-Fi, or your areas bandwidth is being pushed to the max.

A delay in your streaming can happen when watching all kinds of content – but it’s most noticeable during sports events.

For example, you might hear your neighbour cheering for a goal before you see it on your screen.

The delay will always vary between users – but it can be up to a minute long.

The BBC is therefore trialling a low latency version of the BBC Two live stream – the one that will air this summer’s Wimbledon matches and Glastonbury sets.

The goal is to cut the delay between the version of BBC Two broadcast via Freeview, satellite and cable and the iPlayer.

Low latency refers to the time it takes for a TV signal to travel from one point to another, ideally with minimal delay.

The BBC is trialling it in a beta version of the iPlayer app – and only on four TV streaming devices:

  • 3rd generation Amazon Fire TV Stick
  • 2nd generation Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K
  • Samsung CU8000 TVs
  • Samsung CU8500 TVs

To try the BBC Two low latency, viewers will have to tune into a live stream between 9am and 5pm.

Accessing the BBC iPlayer beta requires a quick settings change – simply open the settings menu in the app and toggle on for ‘iPlayer beta’.

Viewers will also need to have their iPlayer region set to England and Scotland.

There is no low latency version of BBC Two Wales or BBC Two Northern Ireland.

Where to buy a Fire TV Stick

Fire TV Sticks are an easy way to add streaming to an older television. They’re manufactured by Amazon, but you can buy them from a number of different stores.

Horrifying photos show the true cause of man’s itchy eye – after he found a LEECH feasting on his eyeball

A BRIT travel agent’s trip to test holiday hotspots became a “nightmare” when he discovered a leech sucking on his EYEBALL.

Tony Exall was on a jungle tour near West Papua, Indonesia on May 22 this year when his left eye began to irritate him.

The 58-year-old blamed it on sweat or a tiny bug but two hours later a fellow visitor spotted that he actually had a leech on his eyeball.

A horrifying photo shows Tony’s bloodshot eye with the small black bloodsucker latched to the white area called the sclera.

Tony grew concerned it might wriggle its way behind his eye so ended his trip early to find medical help.

After six hours and trips to two hospitals a doctor extracted the leech using tweezers – despite the creature pulling on his eyeball tissue to hang on.

Tony, who owns travel company Philippine Dive Holidays, was in Indonesia to test out locations for customers when he decided to head on a photography trip.

The travel agent avoided catching an infection and achieved his aim of snapping a rare king bird-of-paradise minutes before the incident.

He posted the video to Facebook where users described it as ‘stuff nightmares are made of’ and like ‘something from a horror movie’.

Tony, from Oxted, Surrey, said: “I came over here to investigate different places to work with in Indonesia so I thought, while I’m here, I want to do a bit of bird snapping.

“We were waiting for the bird to turn up and I was sweating buckets.

“I could feel something in my eye but I just thought it was a bug. I tried to get rid of it but couldn’t so I tried to ignore it.

“There were leeches everywhere and I must have used the back of my hand to wipe the sweat so I essentially wiped it into my eye.

“A couple hours later we went to move on to somewhere else and one of my spotters pointed out the leech in my eye.

“My biggest concern was that it would get round the back of my eye. He tried to pull it out with his fingers.

“He was pinching my eyeball to get it out but the leech was fixed onto my eyeball. I tried rubbing it but I couldn’t get it out.”

Tony had trekked two hours through the jungle near Malagufuk, West Papua, to reach an area known for king bird-of-paradise sightings.

After having the leech pulled from his eye, Tony was prescribed eye drops and antibiotics to make sure he didn’t develop an infection.

You hear these stories about tropical diseases and infections and having one in your eye is not the best place to have one

Tony Exall

Tony said: “We went to two hospitals to find someone that knew something about eyes.

“At first he tried to remove it and that was quite sore because a leech grabs hold of something and starts to suck the blood.

“He started to gently pull the leech which was quite sore as it was something pulling on my eyeball.

“My next concern was how do you get it off my eye without leaving anything behind.

“You hear these stories about tropical diseases and infections and having one in your eye is not the best place to have one.

“The doctor then squirted some anaesthetic drops onto my eye, got some tweezers and pop, off it came.

“The tissue of my eye was being pulled. I have never had that sensation before.”

After sharing the “squeamish” photos of his eye on Facebook, freaked-out users were quick to comment on his bizarre experience.

One user said: “I’m not usually squeamish but that is stuff from horror movies! Hope everything is okay now.”

Another added: “Omg you need a trigger warning on this post. Sounds awful, hope you recover quickly.”

A third said: “Stuff nightmares are made of.”

A fourth added: “Dangerous stuff, this photography.”

What to do if you have a foreign object in your eye

  1. Advise the casualty not to rub their eye as this could make it worse. Ask them to sit down facing a light.
  2. Stand behind them and gently open their eyelids with your thumbs. Ask them to look right, left, up and down as you look closely at the eye.
  3. If you can see something, ask them to tip their head backwards and wash it out by pouring clean water from the inner corner from a glass or jug.
  4. If this doesn’t work and the object is still on the surface of the eye, try to remove it with a moist piece of gauze or the damp corner of a clean handkerchief or tissue. If the object isn’t easy to remove or the eye is very painful, seek medical advice – ring 111 or attend an Eye Casualty, Emergency Department or Urgent Treatment Centre.
