England U21s’ James Beadle confident he’ll be a European champion… even though he admits he DESERVED to get dropped

ENGLAND U21 goalie James Beadle believes he’ll be a European champion – despite admitting he DESERVED to be dropped at Sheffield Wednesday.

The highly-rated Brighton star, 20, is Slovakia preparing for the European Championship after returning from a season-long loan at Hillsborough.

Beadle, who SunSport understands will join Birmingham City on a similar deal this summer, looks set to face Czechia in the Young Lions’ opening game on Thursday.

And he is adamant that his confidence has not been rocked by the fact that Owls boss Danny Rohl decided to axe him for the final eight games after his performances dipped.

Beadle said: “Overall it was a big learning experience to grow as a player and grow as a person. A lot of things happened, good games, bad games, but overall just a good time of improvement for me.

“Towards the end of my time at Wednesday I don’t think I really performed to my best for whatever reason. Now after taking a step back I understand why and in this tournament and looking ahead I know what I need to do to be at my best more consistently.”

The refreshingly honest stopper continued: “Just going through clips, going through games, and I just don’t think I performed to my capabilities,’ he added.

“I know how good I am, I know I can perform at that level, and in the future I know what I need to do to stay more at my level.

“Sometimes you’ve got to take a step back to properly look at it and that’s when I came out of the team.  It was really hard to take at the time but when you take a step back and realise how I was actually performing, it is what it is.

“I don’t really go on social media or anything, I try to live in my own bubble, but at the time when results aren’t going well and you aren’t performing at the level you can you know you’re going to get criticised. I have no issue being criticised if I know I’m not performing to the level I can.”

Beadle is now focused firmly on the Euros – and he insists that Lee Carsley’s squad can match anybody at the tournament as the Young Lions look to secure back-to-back Euro success.

He added: “We’re at least on par if not better when you look at the talent in this squad. We can definitely compete and try to turn them over.

“It’s been a long build-up now to the tournament and the main goal for us is winning. As a country now we want to start winning things and it starts at youth ages like Under-21s so that’s what we want to do.”

England kick-off their Euro campaign against the Czech Republic on Thursday.

They then face Slovenia three days later and finish the group stage against Germany on Wednesday 18 June with all of the Young Lions’ matches being broadcast on Channel 4.

Married At First Sight’s Sacha shares results of nose job surgery after bitter split from groom

MARRIED At First Sight bride Sacha Jones has revealed the results of her recent nose job.

Back in May, the E4 show alum, 29, shared a series of pictures from her hospital bed after having undergone the procedure.

Sacha showcased a snap in a blue hospital gown and white medical stockings to her Instagram Stories.

She was seen stretched out on the bed and the Married At First Sight 2024 bride added a poll box to ask her followers: “What do you think I’m having done? (If you don’t know already.)”

Sacha, whose marriage to dad-of-one Ross on the matchmaking show ended in a bitter split, then showed an image of her face and nose taped up after the surgery – yet her full face transformation has now come to light.

The Brummie beauty has now taken to Instagram after her bandages were removed – and her new nose had healed.

She styled her blonde locks poker straight and wore a long-sleeve white top as she teased her fans about the “grand reveal.”

In the new clip, she gushed: “Arghhh, here she is,” before showing off her new side-profile look.

Sacha added: “Obviously she’s still very swollen so the nose will go a lot smaller, I’m aware I look like Avatar from the front.

“I can really tell what it’s going to look like when the swelling has gone down.

“It will take about six to 12 months to get the full final result.

“My surgeon has done an incredible job.”

Sacha, who turned to Christianity following her failed MAFS experience, then added: “And I also want to take this time to address something.

“That’s a comment I keep getting in regard to my surgery and my faith.

“So the Christian police have been out and commenting on my surgery videos about should a woman of God get surgery.

“The way I always describe God and a relationship with God the father is literally like the relationship with your earthly father.

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time

Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.

Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.

Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.

Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”

Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.

Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.

“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.

“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’

“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”

Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.

Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.

They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.

Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”

“When I told my dad about having my nose done for the first time I even knew what he was going to say but I said ‘don’t try and stop me because I’m going to do it anyway.’

“He would rather me not do it – he says ‘you’re beautiful the way you are, I gave you that nose.'”

She added: “Did it stop my dad being there for me when I was in Turkey, answering the phone at 4am to check I was OK, praying for my healing and was with me every step of the way.

“Did that stop him from doing that? Did that make him disown me? No.

“I believe that’s the same with my heavenly father as well, did he turn his back on me? Did he disown me? Did it mean he wasn’t with me every step of the way?

“Would he rather me didn’t do it because he thinks I’m perfect the way I am? Maybe.”

Sacha then told how she didn’t see the difference between having hair coloured or teeth whitened to her nose job in terms of altering appearance and potential vanity.

She said she and Jesus were still “working on some things” after only finding faith a year ago.

CLAP BACK

Yet despite her lengthy video argument, some of her followers remained unconvinced.

One wrote: “This isn’t me being critical, honestly. But you’re a devout Christian and really try to follow the scriptures in your life, right? So I’m just wondering — isn’t this kind of thing completely against what the Bible teaches us?”

Another agreed and put: “Nothing can make God disown you, however that does not mean that you should go out of your way to do something you know he would prefer you not to. Insecurity comes from within rather than injections or surgical changes. All you have to do is ask for forgiveness, truthfully, and it’ll be like it never happened. God bless you.”

Yet others were quick to back the TV star and one wrote: “Omg you look beautiful babe! Do what makes YOU happy.”

Another added: “Whatever your faith is, I think always do what’s right for u & nobody else’s opinion counts. You were lovely before & still lovely now! Be happy always.”

MAFS JOURNEY

Sacha married Ross at the start of MAFS’ 2024 series when sparks flew and everything seemed perfect between the pair.

The couple then went from strength to strength in their marriage, with them dubbed as one of the strongest pairs early on in the programme.

Yet cracks began to show and Ross’ temper began to flare as they hit a series of bumps in the road.

Sacha was keen to move to Manchester to be with Ross, with her even open to leaving her life in Birmingham behind.

Yet fans then witnessed the blonde beauty break down on-screen after her renewal vows with Ross, before the dad of one dumped her

Her eventual split with Manchester-based Ross then came two weeks after filming wrapped.

Sacha then stunned fans as she joked she had married again back in January.

Yet all was not as it seemed, with the aesthetics practitioner stating she had: “Married our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

Flashing a silver band, she added: “Now guys this is a purity ring and I just wanted to explain that to you.

“A purity ring just represents your commitment to God and vowing to stay abstinent until marriage.

“They’re on your hand as a reminder of your vow to God if you ever get tempted.”

On MAFS UK, Sacha became famous for her abstinence, as she told Ross she wasn’t planning to be intimate with him until their relationship was well established.

Nottingham Forest announce retained list with fans in disbelief at players set to stay

NOTTINGHAM FOREST have announced their retained list – and fans are baffled that one player is still with the club.

Nuno Santo’s side enjoyed a stunning Premier League campaign in 2024/25.

Some fans are baffled as to why Emmanuel Dennis remains on the books[/caption]

The Portuguese boss masterminded a return to European football for the first time in three decades.

Forest revealed their retained list on Monday ahead of a busy summer.

Experienced centre-back Willy Boly has been offered a new contract at the City Ground.

Former Wales international keeper Wayne Hennessey is also in talks with the club over extending his stay.

But one forgotten name among the retained players jumped out to fans.

Striker Emmanuel Dennis signed for the club in 2022 for £10million.

He has made just 25 appearances across all competitions for Forest, scoring twice.

Dennis spent last season out loan at Blackburn Rovers.

The move followed temporary spells at Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir and former side Watford.

Dennis’ contract runs until June 2026 – but some fans claim it is already time to move him on.

One fan fumed: “Can we just rip up the Dennis contract please and pay him off.”

Another agreed on X: “Financially, it makes sense to give Dennis away for free if anyone will take him.”

A third added: “Probably 10 of the retained list also need to depart this summer in some shape or form.”

Forest also penned an emotional goodbye to Harry Toffolo, who signed for the club in 2022.

Toffolo is the only player to depart the City Ground on a free transfer this summer.

The full-back arrived from Huddersfield after Forest beat the Terriers in the Championship playoff final three years ago.

A statement read: “Since his arrival from Huddersfield Town in 2022, Toffolo has made an invaluable contribution not only on the pitch, but also off it.

“Last year, the 29-year-old was named as an ambassador for Tricky to Talk – Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s mental health programme – having attended several Tricky Hubs and Bottled Up Blokes sessions, speaking about his own history with mental health whilst actively listening to participants who share similar struggles.

“As he embarks on a new chapter, everyone at the Club sends their sincere thanks to Harry for his outstanding contribution to Nottingham Forest and wishes him every success for the future.”

The age you can leave children at home alone in Ireland as summer holidays near

THE age at which children can be left home alone in Ireland has been revealed as summer holidays draw nearer.

The State’s leading Irish child protection service Tusla and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) have weighed in on the question.

There are multiple things to consider before leaving your child or teen at home[/caption]

It’s one that many parents are asking as both primary and secondary schools begin to wrap up for the academic year.

Although some children will have a childminder or go to a summer camp, it’s not unlikely that they may have to be left home alone.

Tusla have said that there is no specific legal age that a child can be left home alone in Ireland.

But the child’s safety and welfare must still be accounted for.

Tusla said that children under the age of 14 are generally not seen as mature enough to be left home alone.

They explained: “There is no set age at which it is legal to leave children home alone, as it depends on whether the child is mature enough to be left alone.

“For older teenagers, it is the decision of the parent or guardian, based on the child, their level of maturity and their living circumstances.”

The group added that young children should never be left home alone, while children over the age of 14 should only be left home alone for a very short period of time.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

From 16 onwards, it’s generally considered that a child is mature enough to be left at home without a parent or guardian.

The NSPCC also offer advice on how to asses whether or not your child is mature enough to stay home alone.

Head of local campaigns Helen Westerman said that a child who doesn’t feel comfortable being left alone should not stay at home without a supervisor.

She added that parents must also consider if their child is ready to play outside unsupervised.

As children get older and socialising with friends becomes a bigger part of life, many might spend their summer holidays shopping or going to the beach with their peers.

But Westerman said there are a few things to consider before allowing this.

EMERGENCY SCENARIO

She told The Mirror: “As children get older, it’s common for them to want more freedom and learn to be independent.

“This is an important part of growing up, but we know there can be a lot to think about for parents.

“As every child is different, we recommend building up their independence at their pace and checking in with them to make sure they feel safe.”

Some tips that parents can consider before deciding to leave their child home alone include asking, ‘Are they ready’, and considering ‘What would they do in an emergency?’

A second tip is taking sensible precautions by reducing risk factors and leaving a spare set of keys, food, and access to the bathroom.

A third is to know the facts if your child is going out unsupervised, including where they are going and with who.

FINAL TIP

A fourth tip is to make sure your children have the correct phone numbers and can easily contact you.

And a common tip is to go through different scenarios with your child and explain the correct way to approach them.

For example, you might want to ask them what they would do if a stranger came to the door or if someone asked them to do something they were uncomfortable with.

And a final tip is to establish clear boundaries, so that your child is aware of all the rules when they are unsupervised, in or outside of the house.

Westerman said: “said: “It’s a good idea to agree on some house or outside rules that suit their maturity before you leave them alone.

“Give your child a chance to build their independence by building your trust.

“If they adhere to rules and boundaries you set, you’ll feel more confident letting them do more on their own.”

Can your child be left home alone?

Here are some things to consider before leaving your child unsupervised:

  • Ask yourself are they comfortable with it?
  • Have you taken sensible measures to prevent risk?
  • Do you know the facts of where your child is going and with who?
  • Does your child have the correct phone number?
  • Do you they know what to do in an emergency scenario?
  • Have you established clear boundaries about being unsupervised with your child?
