The killer cancer you’ve NEVER heard of and the stealth symptoms you must know – as cases rise in young people

CANCER is typically thought of as a disease of old age.

But doctors are increasingly finding that certain types, particularly bowel cancer, are hitting younger people far more than they used to.

Illustration of five symptoms of appendix cancer: pain, bloating, abdominal mass, nausea and vomiting, and feeling full quickly after eating.

In a new report, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, scientists have found that appendiceal cancer – a very rare form of the disease – is also on the rise.

An analysis of over 4000 people in the US, found that compared with older generations, rates of the condition, also called appendix cancer, have tripled among Gen X and quadrupled among millennials.

“There is a disproportionate burden of appendix cancer among young individuals,” said the study’s lead author, Andreana Holowatyj, from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in the US, told NBC News.

The researchers suggest that environmental, lifestyle and genetic factors that intensified after the second-world war may explain the concerning increase in appendix cancer rates.

They point to dietary habits, gut bacteria changes, greater prevalence of conditions inflaming the gastrointestinal tract in particular.

“Similar trends have been reported for other gastrointestinal cancers, suggestive of potential shared cause contributing to this increasing cancer burden across generations,” the study noted.

Although the new study, published yesterday, did not include individuals from the UK, a study published in 2022 did, revealing a similar trend.

The research, published in BJS Open, showed that cases of the disease in the UK have more than quadrupled in the UK – jumping from 949 between 1995 and 2001 to 4132 between 2010 and 2016.

Still, appendix cancers are extremely rare.

According to the National Cancer Institute, they occur at a rate of 1 to 2 cases per million people annually in the US.

Meanwhile, in the UK, where the population is smaller, around 640 people are diagnosed with the disease each year.

The appendix is a small pouch of tissue that hangs off the abdomen.

It is part of the intestines and bowel, which absorb nutrients and remove waste from the body.

Experts do not know what the appendix does, but it may help the immune system.

There are two main types of appendiceal cancer: epithelial appendiceal cancer and neuroendocrine appendiceal cancer.

The symptoms of appendiceal cancer can vary but may include abdominal pain, bloating, the presence of a lump in the tummy, nausea, and feeling full quickly after eating.

It sees single stars join an exclusive dating agency in a bid to find romance.

The Sun can reveal Jon’s efforts ultimately prove successful, as he has found love with hunky Jordan Fairhurst.

Jordan, who works in marketing, met Jon when they were set up by the show’s matchmakers.

An insider tells The Sun: “Sparks flew between Jon and Jordan instantly.

“There was a real connection there from the get go and things developed really quickly.

“They have been on a few dates on the show, but now they are in official and in a full blown relationship.

“Jon never expected to find something serious on the show. but Jordan really took him by surprise.

“Fans will see how the relationship develops on the show but it’s one of the love stories of the series. It’s all very sweet.”

Earlier this year, Jon took to Instagram and shared news of his Celebs Go Dating involvement.

He captioned: “So exciting to be joining the season 14 cast of @celebsgodating!”

One fan commented: “I can’t wait to see you on this, you’ll be fab xxxx.”

Another wrote: “Love this… goodluck lovely.”

While a third penned: “Looking froward to watch our Jon look for romance.”

A fourth remarked: “Oh hello!!!!! How exciting.”

Filming is taking place in Ibiza during the first date stages, for the first time ever.

The cast previously jetted off to the White Isle to begin filming, with the show airing in the summer.

Also on board are The Chase quizzer Mark Labbett, Too Hot To Handle hunk Louis Russell, former Love Island contestant, Olivia Hawkins and Sam Prince from Made In Chelsea.

Where stars of Celebs Go Dating are now?

Celebs Go Dating premiered in 2016 and has since aired a whopping twelve series of the show and has helped almost 50 famous faces try and find love.

Whilst many didn’t find their forever partner on the programme, many of the show’s biggest names have nonetheless managed to settle down of their own accord.

  • Charlotte Crosby (series 1 – 2016) – The show’s first big signee was Charlotte who was fresh from quitting Geordie Shore and splitting with on-off love Gaz Beadle. On the show, she enjoyed dates with a stripper named Jeavon and MAFS hunk Brad Skellyyears before he took part in the E4 marriage programme. These days, the reality megastar has found love with businessman Jake Ankers and the pair share daughter Alba Jean together. Having got engaged in Dubai last year, with the proposal filmed for her BBC series Charlotte in Sunderland, the TV couple are now planning a wedding of their dreams as well as hoping for more children.
  • Ferne McCann (series 2 – 2017) – Ferne was fresh out of the I’m A Celebrity jungle when she joined the Celebrity Dating Agency. Although the TOWIE beauty failed to find lasting love on the programme, she soon became a mother to baby Sunday with her jailed ex, Arthur Collins. These days she is happily with her fiance Lorri Haines and the couple even have their own child together, Finty.
  • Jorgie Porter (series 2 – 2017) – Like Ferne, Hollyoaks actress Jorgie was snapped up for the show after a stint Down Under. She is now a mum-of-one to baby Forest and has recently given fans a peek into motherhood and her home life with fiance Ollie for the very first time on ITV reality series, Drama Queens.
  • Charlotte Dawson (series 3 – 2017) – Charlotte was all up for a laugh when she headed to the Agency after making a reputation for herself as a wild party animal. During her time on the programme, she enjoyed a sordid forbidden romance with fellow celeb, The X Factor star Frankie Coccozza which quickly fizzled out. Now the star is a mum to two boys, Noah and Jude, with her rugby ace partner, Matt Sarsfield.
  • Kerry Katona (series 6 – 2019) – Whilst often known for being unlucky in love, Kerry attempted to find the one with a turn on CGD. With three failed marriages and five children under her belt, Kerry treated the programme as a last-chance saloon. Whilst romance did not blossom, she used the agent’s advice with her next partner, fiance Ryan Mahoney whom she met shortly after the series wrapped. Kerry and Ryan are still happily together to this day and live in her stunning Cheshire abode.
  • Alison Hammond (series 8 – 2020) – This Morning legend Alison took part in the programme in 2020 after admitting to longing for a partner. Although she enjoyed a slew of successful dates, nothing appeared to last. However, The Sun revealed earlier this month how the TV presenter had managed to win the heart of a Russian toyboy, David Putman.
  • Laura Anderson and Gary Lucy (series 11 – 2022) – Love Island star Laura and Hollyoaks actor Gary ended up dating one another after both signing up for the show’s eleventh series. They went on to have a daughter together, Bonnie, but their romance has been on-off with the pair even being separated during Laura’s pregnancy. Although it looked as though the romance had gotten back on track, things appear to have cooled once again in recent weeks.
  • Vanessa Feltz (series 12 – 2023) – Vanessa signed up for the show in the wake of her highly-publicised split from her ex, Ben Ofeudo. Vanessa left E4 fans shocked when she was criticised for her rude demeanour on dates and was called out by the show’s agents for her behaviour with the gentleman she was paired up with on the show. Vanessa is still believed to be single almost a year on from the show.
  • Adam Collard (series 12 – 2023) – The Love Island bad boy caused tension on the show after he hooked up with fashion model and OnlyFans creator Lottie Moss during filming but later confirmed he wanted nothing more with Kate Moss’ little sis. These days, he is loved up with sports broadcaster Laura Woods with the couple regularly putting on the PDA when out in public.

Last month, The Sun revealed Celebrity Big Brother star Donna Preston had been snapped up as a late signing.

She said: “I’m buzzing to be joining the show and to finally crack the code on what men really want, besides snacks and not being asked what they’re thinking.

“I’m intrigued to meet new people, but let’s be honest, if a date’s boring, I won’t waste anyone’s time.

“Life’s too short to sit through tales of someone’s coin collection, I’ll be gone before the starter arrives.”

World Cup winner’s son, 21, following his dad’s footsteps as he’s fast-tracked into England squad after just 10 games

A RUGBY WORLD CUP winner’s son is following in his dad’s footsteps with an England call-up.

Kyran Bracken, 53, played 51 times for the Red Rose between 1993 and 2003.

His final cap was the 2003 World Cup semi-final against France.

That was his fourth appearance in Australia during the six-week – which also included featuring against Wales in the quarters.

The scrum-half was an unused substitute in the final against Australia – famously won by Jonny Wilkinson’s last-gasp drop goal.

But he did pick up a winner’s medal for his contributions.

And now his son is hoping to have the same impact for his country.

Charlie Bracken is one of 16 uncapped players named in England’s latest training squad.

The 21-year-old – who like his father plays at scrum-half – will hope to get his chance to shine in the summer tour of Argentina and the USA.

England also face a France XV at Twickenham on June 21.

Bracken Jr has played at junior level for England, including at Under-20s, but has been given a fast-track route into the senior camp.

The Saracens rising star – whose brother Jack is an up-and-coming winger – has just ten Premiership appearances under his belt.

But Steve Borthwick is impressed and feels as though he has seen enough to give the youngster a shot amongst the senior internationals.

The squad for the upcoming tours will be confirmed on June 23.

But the training camp met today and will train together until Friday.

However, no Bath or Leicester Tigers players were included due to their Premiership final on June 14.

And it also excluded the England men named in the British and Irish Lions squad for the tour of Australia.
