The Observation Wheel, which has been financed by the people who run the local funfair, is located on the central beach in the town.

According to the SomersetLive, locals have been enthusiastic about the new addition.

One local, named Robert, said: “We always come down to Weymouth. We used to do a lot of diving in the sea here.

“So we thought we’d come back and visit some of the regular haunts for our anniversary.”

Some locals also mentioned how the town used to be quite run down, but that the new wheel has brought more confidence to locals about improving the appeal of the town to visitors.

Another local added: “The Observation Wheel has only been up a few weeks and I don’t mind it.

“It adds something and brings people in.”

The wheel is located at Weymouth Central Beach’s end, which is also home to a number of fairground attractions and seaside activities.

The wheel costs £11 to go on, and riders will see amazing views across the coast.

Other locals mentioned how the wheel will help local businesses as it will bring people down in the summer.

Mayor of Weymouth, Councillor Jon Orrell, said: “The observation wheel is one of the tallest attractions on the beach offering fantastic views of Weymouth’s iconic Jurassic coastline.

“We are pleased to see this new attraction opening on the beach for the very first time, which complements the other seasonal rides.

“It will offer something for all ages for residents and visitors alike.”

Weymouth has also been described as a supersized UK seaside town that’s home to the country’s biggest beach and foot-long Mr Whippy ice creams.

Plus, from beaches to dinosaurs – Haven’s Weymouth Bay resort has lots to see.

Gomes came through Manchester United‘s academy and made 10 first team appearances for the Red Devils.

Having debuted for England last year, the playmaker attracted interest from Tottenham and West Ham.

Per French football reporter Fabrice Hawkins, however, Gomes has snubbed a Prem return to join Marseille.

Having been impressed by Roberto De Zerbi‘s first season at the helm, in which he guided l’OM to a runner-up finish, Gomes has agreed to move to the South of France.

The transfer will see the former Man Utd academy starlet reunite with Mason Greenwood.

Born less than a year apart, Gomes and Greenwood played together for various Red Devils age group sides, as well as briefly overlapping in the first team set-up.

Having previously been a key player, Gomes hardly featured for Lille during the second half of the Ligue 1 season.

Since returning from a calf injury in January, the four-cap England star made just four brief league appearances as he ran his contract down.

Having spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Portuguese side Boavista, Gomes spent four seasons in Lille’s first team.

The diminutive 5ft 6in ace played 134 times for Lille, winning the Trophee des Champions in 2021.

TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: ALL THE LATEST FROM THE SUMMER WINDOW

Announcing his upcoming Lille exit last month, Gomes wrote on social media: “After four unforgettable years at LOSC Lille, it’s time for me to say goodbye.

“This club has been more than just a team — it’s been a family, a home, and a place that has shaped me both on and off the pitch.

“Like any journey, there were ups and downs, highs and lows, but I’m truly grateful to my team-mates and the fans for sticking with me throughout.

“I’m proud of what we achieved together and thankful for every moment.

“To the fans — thank you for your amazing support and for believing in me. I will forever be grateful.

“I always gave everything I had for the badge and for all of you.

“Lille will always have a special place in my heart.”

‘Last days are kind of uncomfortable’ admits Brian Dowling as he signs off air on 98FM after two years

BRIAN Dowling has admitted to feeling “uncomfortable” on his last day on 98FM.

The Virgin Media star revealed on Tuesday that he has called it quits on his radio show after more than two years on air.

Brian had been co-hosting a weekday morning show from 10am to 1pm with Suzanne Kane since March 2023.

However, the pair haven’t hosted the show together in months with Leanne Hanafin replacing Suzanne.

It’s the dad-of-two’s last time co-hosting his 98FM show today and emotions are high in the studio.

When Leanne asked how he feels, Brian said: “Do you know what’s really weird? I always feel last days are kind of uncomfortable. Even when it’s a decision you make and you’re happy about it and you’re excited.

“I just think they’re uncomfortable for everyone. Because I feel like everyone’s like, ‘Oh, yeah, bye’. I don’t really feel this is a goodbye. It’s more like, ‘Talk to you later’.”

The 46-year-old reflected on his radio journey and even revealed one stroppy moment in the studio saying: “Listen, I joined here and I hadn’t a clue what to do.

“One day Suzanne said to me, ‘Could you just lower your headphones down’, I took them off and put them on the ground.

“Honestly, I’ve been in television for years and hosting on my own and live shows and tape shows doing all that.

“But radio for me is so different. I have such a love for it now. Such a passion for it the way I do for telly.”

Brian has felt “utter joy” having “a laugh” on radio for the last two and a half years.

He said: “Even on those tough day, there’s been a few of them, on those bad days – I’ve still laughed. Even when I’ve been crying in between songs with you or when I was with Suzanne, and still laughing and still enjoying the job.

“It’s an honour to sit here. It’s an utter privilege to work in the industry that I work in and to speak to people every day.

“And music is not just music. Music is connected to people. It means something. Songs trigger memories, good, bad and indifferent.

“And for the last nearly two and a half years, I’ve been lucky enough to do that every day.”

‘SUCH A THRILL’

The Kildare native spoke about how he felt like he could be his “authentic self” on radio.

He explained: “I’ve been a certain version of myself for my 20s, 30s now I’m 47 next week.

“But this is the only job honestly, that I’ve ever actually been 100% myself.

“On The Six O’Clock Show, I’m obviously myself but you’re reigned in a bit, it’s live television. It’s very, very different. On this platform, I’m genuinely myself.

“On television, you’re scripted, there’s autocue, there’s this, that. Here you can just be yourself. And it’s been such a thrill to be able to actually be myself.

“I’ve learned so much about myself, about radio, about everything. It’s been such an amazing opportunity to every.”

He added: “To James and to Chris, to Pat, who have just been phenomenal, giving me this opportunity.

“To Suzanne, who sat there, to you, have been with me, to Ciaran. I’ve had such a blast. And this is a good day. This is not a sad day. It’s a day of celebration.”
