He shared their emotional journey during an episode of the GAA Social Podcast alongside co-host Oisin McConville and guest Johnny Glynn.

The conversation spurred former Galway hurling star Glynn to reveal that he also shared his own fertility struggles.

Gynn, who is based in New York, revealed that his wife Serena has endured failed IVF rounds and miscarriage heartbreak of their own.

Glynn initially retired from inter-county hurling in 2020 after he had had enough of commuting from New York to play for the Galway senior hurlers.

He briefly returned for Galway 2024 under Henry Shefflin, before returning to represent New York.

He also represented New York in the Connacht football championship in their first-ever championship win against Leitrim in 2023.

The 31-year-old captained New York to Lory Meagher Cup success at Croke Park, but just days earlier the couple had received devastating news that their latest IVF attempt had not worked.

Former Armagh star Oisin McConville described the episode as a “privilege” to be part of as both men spoke candidly about loss and grief.

Before Glynn shared his experiences, Niblock opened up about nearly losing his wife during a pregnancy complication.

He stated: “It is not an exaggeration – my family and friends would know this – we were very close to losing Kirstie.

“That shapes you. When you go through something like that, your priorities change. You still want to have children, of course, but when you come that close to losing the person you love, that becomes everything.”

He explained that while IVF might be a future option for them, they’re still on the path of trying to figure things out with wife Kristie.

He revealed: “She’s a strong person with a good head on her shoulders,” Niblock said. “But it’s still heavy. I’d feel like a hypocrite not putting myself out there, even if it’s a bit weird to talk about.”

Glynn’s experience echoed those sentiments.

“We’ve had miscarriages. We’ve had an ectopic pregnancy. We’ve done multiple rounds of IVF.

“We’ve just finished our fifth round of IVF transfers and they’ve all failed so far. Honestly, I don’t know how we’ll get there – but I know we will.

“If one day we have healthy kids, I’ll take all these tough years. We’ll be fine because we’ve got each other.”

He added that further heartbreak was watching his wife in pain.

Glynn adeed: “It’s the one thing I can’t fix. And that’s a f*****g killer.”

The pair also reflected on moments where people casually asked them when they were having children.

Niblock recalled that he fronts up about the past heartbreaks.

He added: “To be honest, we’ve had three miscarriages.”

“Their face just drops. But I think that’s important.”

“When you’re in the middle of it, and you don’t have kids – you’re in a very different place. And the truth is, we don’t talk about this enough. It’s not normalised. And I include myself in that.”

He ended with an emotional message as he revealed some different paths that he and his wife may take.

“We’re still clinging on to hope – and hope is a powerful thing. If that was gone, we’d start looking at other paths, maybe adoption or fostering, or accepting life without children.

“But whatever happens, me and Kirstie will have a brilliant life. As long as she’s there – that’s what matters.”

THE HISTORY OF PENNEYS

THE Penneys brand grew from humble beginnings on Dublin's Mary Street, where it opened its first store in 1969.

Known as Primark outside Ireland, the company was the brainchild of Garfield Weston, who hired Dubliner Arthur Ryan to make his vision reality.

Penneys branched into the UK in 1973 with its first store opening in Derby. The UK now has 191 Primark stores in total.

However, the Penneys name could not travel to Britain as the American retailer JC Penney had the right to use the name in the region.

And in 2006, the expansion into Europe began with an opening in Spain, followed by the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Austria, France and Italy.

Primark went Stateside for the first time in September 2015, with the opening of a store in Boston. There are now 27 stores in America with branches in Florida, Brooklyn, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The retailer’s opened its largest store in Birmingham in 2019.

It spans five floors and features Primark’s biggest beauty studio to date, a barbers and three restaurants.

My friend went to extreme measures to stop me going home from a night out and ended up in A&E – the X-ray says it all

A MUM has told how her best pal swallowed her house key in a cheeky prank – then ended up in A&E.

Siobhan Stanton, from Edinburgh, gobbled down friend Adele Donkin’s metal door-opener to stop her leaving the pub and heading home.

But the 35-year-old’s drunken stunt awkwardly backfired as she found herself in hospital the next day.

Medics carried out an X-ray which revealed the distinctive metal shape lodged in her large intestine.

Adele, also 35, said she thought best pal Siobhan was only pulling her leg near the end of their night out in the capital

She told Fabulous: “We had been out at the local pub and it was nearly the end of the night and I was standing at the pub door with my key in my hand.

“I said to her ‘I’m going home now’ and she was asking me to stay out longer.

“I kept saying no then she just grabbed my key and swallowed it.

“I genuinely thought she was winding me up and had pretended to swallow it and had it hidden behind her back.

“So then I couldn’t go home as my mum was night shift at work so I had to phone her at work and tell her what happened, she thought I was winding her up too. I had to stay at my friend’s that night.”

The mum-of-two continued: “We went to A&E, they did an X-ray and said it would pass naturally.

“It did about five days later and she asked if I wanted my key back but I said no thanks I will get a new key cut.

“Me and her always have the funniest nights out, we have been in some funny situations.

“When I asked her why she swallowed the key she said “I would have missed you if you went home, I just wanted you to stay out'”.

The 2017 incident went viral on Thursday with 200,000 TikTok views after Adele – who said it “still makes her laugh out loud” – posted about it for the first time on her page (@adeledonkin).

One person joked: “My kinda friend.”

Referencing horror flick Saw, another wrote: “She really said ‘let’s play a game’.”

Did that hurt going in AND THEN going back out cause girl that is some commitment”, screamed a fourth.

A fifth cried: “I am HOWLING.”

Meanwhile, a sixth insisted: “This will never not be funny.”

Jet2 has revealed new winter routes for 2026 – with tickets already on sale.

One of the exclusive routes goes from Bournemouth to Malaga.

This route will begin in July 2026 and continue until November of that year.

The Spanish city is a great place for winter sun as it has highs of 24C in October, and it’s only two hours away from the UK.

Malaga has more than 105 miles of sandy beaches making it the perfect spot for sunbathing.

The beaches are usually bordered by palm trees and adorned with colourful parasols.

It’s also popular for watersports enthusiasts, and there’s hundreds of restaurants too.

The other exclusive route from Jet2 is from London Luton to Palma Majorca.

The route is already in action for summer 2025, and will continue until November.

It will then pause before beginning again in March 2026 and continuing through to November.

Majorca is a popular winter sun destination[/caption]

Flights will begin again in February and March 2027.

The capital of Majorca, Palma, is a popular winter holiday destination because daytime averages in winter are usually around 17C.

Although temperatures during December have highs of 26C in recent years.

Playa de Palma and Cala Major are two of Palma’s best beaches, with golden sands and crystal-clear seas.

There’s the option to sunbathe, but the city centre has lots of culture to see and explore.

The winter time will inevitably offer a more relaxed time away as it’s out of peak season.

Jet2 has converted a number of summer seasonal routes into year-round flights too.

The extended routes are from Bristol to Athens in Greece and Almeria, Bilbao and Murcia in Spain.

Also continuing through winter will be flights from Edinburgh to Athens, and from London Luton to Bordeaux in France and Murcia.

The flights are already on sale.

Jet2 launched new flights from UK airport for first time ever earlier this year.

The airline also revealed plans for a new winter sun destination where it’s 24C in December.
