‘Call of the Night’ Season 2 May Have Creepy Nuts But It Still Can’t Outdo Its First Opening

Call of the Night is one of those anime you wouldn’t want to sleep on. It’s captivating, enthralling, and brilliant in every way. Be it themes or characters, it has the perfect hook for fans interested in a refreshing vampire love story.

What makes this shonen series so interesting is the music. It sets the mood for the characters and the ongoing events. And what better way to kick it off than to have Creepy Nuts share their brilliance, but here’s the thing.

Season 2’s trailer features the duo’s opening theme. It’s zesty, lively, and catchy, but as the saying goes. Nothing beats the original, and there are several reasons as to why Mirage cannot compare to Daten. So let’s unpack this!

For us weebs, anime isn’t a mere medium but something that hits home. That goes for music too, especially the anime openings. How often is it that we come across something so brilliant that it stays with us for a decade?

Well, to answer that, we must look at this iconic duo that has fans raving for more. Yes, we’re talking about Creepy Nuts. They swept the floor with the legendary title track for Mashle: Bling Bang Bang Born.

It was pretty recent that the artists won Song of the Year at the Music Japan Awards 2025. But they outshone themselves with their consistent performance. Call of the Night is a brilliant example of that.

In 2022, they graced the anime with both the ending and the opening theme. Daten, the opening theme, holds significance to this day and overpowered the duo’s theme for the second season, and most fans are in consensus about this.

W but it ain’t beating the first sadly – @ _.matt.es._

Daten was too peak – @cocobird0703

First one is better but the beat still 🔥. Not long till the return or nazuna & kou 😆 – @borz.f7

Daten was so peak sadly. – @earlyon1st

Honestly, fans do have a point. Daten is in a league of its own. The capriciousness, clubbed with the peppiness of the beats, fits perfectly. As Ko and Nazuna explore the intricacies of their worlds, it all makes sense.

Mirage, on the other hand, is fresh out of the oven. It’s a complete shift from the high-headedness into the calm zone. The afro beats take you to another zone altogether, but what it does is set the tone for the Second Season.

Mirage sets the tone for Call of the Night Season 2

Up until now, Call of the Night underscored Ko and Nazuna’s motivations. Ko struggles with insomnia and seeks freedom and liberation from this. Nazuna, on the other hand, embodies nonchalance and doesn’t fit into conventions.

Her motivations? Well, she strives not to fit into the mould. She’s unlike most vampires; she is free-spirited yet detached, but that’s because she cares for Ko. As the story progresses, she finds herself growing fond of the guy.

Season 1 ends with them cementing their relationship with a kiss. It was a much-deserved conclusion, yet problems do not seem to end for them now, do they? Anko sides with the vampires, acting as an ally, but there’s more to it.

The second season would expand on Nazuna’s backstory and her past. It would also involve Anko’s role in the arcs as a vampire hunter. For the most part, it looks exciting, thrilling, and riveting, to say the least!

Mirage sure as heck is that one song that would potentially top the charts. Its vibe underlines the subtle calm before the storm, and it is spot-on! But as fans said, Daten made it way cooler. We cannot wait for Season 2 anymore!

Call of the Night is currently available for streaming on Netflix. Season 2 is set to premiere on July 4th, 2025.
