‘Call of the Night’ Season 2 Got ‘Dandadan’s Ace Up Its Sleeve

For vampire enthusiasts and fanatics, Call of the Night is the perfect anime. It was in 2022 that the anime was released, and it left an indelible mark on us. The characters, story, and themes are completely out of the box, so to speak.

The series won the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award, and it was rightly deserved. It was also nominated for the Crunchyroll Awards back in 2023, and to say the least, the anime is back with yet another banger.

How so? Well, with season 2, the anime has bagged Dandadan’s ace, and it is working out in their favor. The netizens are raving about the trailer, but what makes it so good now? Let’s unpack this now, shall we?

Call of the Night (Yofukashi no Uta) is an invigorating story about a vampire and a human. But it’s not a cliche love story, no. It explores themes of identity, love, and belongingness in a world full of vampires and humans.

Ko, a 14-year-old boy, steps out and walks on the streets at night. His chance meeting with Nazuna, a vampire, changes his perception of life. She retains her liveliness despite being a vampire, which is, honestly, quite refreshing.

Kotoyama’s characters are like different hues on a spectrum. Seri is an unapologetic gyaru. Kabura, on the other hand, holds unrequited love for Haru, Nazuna’s mother. These hues are blended seamlessly through music.

Creepy Nuts gave consecutive banger tracks for this anime. We’re not complaining one bit. However, the duo is back with yet another masterstroke for Season 2, and this is how most fans responded:

“BEST DUO IN MUSIC HISTORY@davoxime

“They cooked again”@rynel_d_souza

“It’s giving afrobeat × Japanese style”@_phunto_

” These guys are remarkable. Afrobeat opening”@u_an_dead

“Petition to make creepy nuts in all openings for latest anime titles ——>”@kyborq commented

Season 2 trailer featured the duo’s new song, Mirage, which would remind you of Afro music. It’s calm yet peppy but not in-your-face. The song would make you want to get up and groove along with the beats.

It fits the anime’s overall vibe. The serenity of the night blends well with the characters’ nature to lose their masks. The duo understood the assignment pretty well, maybe that’s why they remain Dandadan’s ace for the most part!

Creepy Nuts remains Dandadan’s ace for the most part

A large part of why Dandadan remains significant also has to do with its music. Specifically, the opening song boosted Creepy Nuts’ popularity, and the netizens went gaga over that one! But there’s more to their work!

With each project, the duo highlights their versatility and diversity as artists. They made waves with Mashle’s title track, and the same applies to Yukinobu Tatsu’s opus. Otonoke captured the essence of the supernatural within its lyrics.

Precisely why we call them the anime’s Ace. They did the same with Yofukashi no Uta. The second season has everyone grooving and moving with Mirage, but the first one is second to none.

Mirage is a peppy and groovy track that had most viewers floored for the most part. Daten, on the other hand, changes the momentum with the saxophone that blends perfectly with the drum beats. It is sheer poetry to the ears.

On the whole, Season 2 sure as heck looks promising, especially with the newly released trailer!

Call of the Night and Dandadan are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
