Aidan’s Snub to Carrie in ‘And Just Like That’ Episode 3 Might Be My Last Straw

Before season 3 of And Just Like That even aired, John Corbett’s Aidan was on thin ice. After all, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) got a whole new fancy apartment in Gramercy Park just to be with him without all their on-and-off memories from her old apartment. But, right before she moved in, Aidan broke the news that he wouldn’t be joining her just yet.

When his youngest son, 14-year-old Wyatt, got into a car accident while under the influence, Aidan knew he had to stay behind in Virginia and be with him. And sure, one could argue that his decision to ask for the five-year break is nothing but honorable, a good guy being a good dad. But doesn’t Carrie deserve a little more respect? Or, better yet, a little more commitment?

Season 3 then started with Carrie and Aidan in limbo, with them sending each other blank postcards and keeping their distance. Then, Aidan called and not-so-subtly asked for phone sex. It was awkward, cringey, and downright confusing for Carrie, who was just getting used to his new rules.

In episode 2, when Aidan went back to New York to see her, they seemingly talked it out. “I was so upset and I think guilty for being up here the night of Wyatt’s accident that I went a little overboard,” he said, adding that they can text and rely on each other while he continues to be “laser-focused” at home.

So as episode 3 of the show started, Carrie was finally feeling some resolve, right? Well, not exactly.

When she agrees to join a book panel in Virginia, she tells her friends she’ll meet Aidan for an “easy breezy” lunch. But, deep down, all she wants is for Aidan, who we can only assume is her long-distance boyfriend at this point, to ask her to stay over.

After she wallows over it all episode, Aidan finally invites her over. “I’m so sorry, this is a lot of trouble to go through for lunch,” Carrie says when they meet. “Yeah, it is, so why not stay for dinner too? And a light breakfast!”

But, before Aidan and Carrie fans start celebrating, even his sleepover request takes a turn.

“So listen, I didn’t get a chance to tell the boys you were coming,” Aidan tells Carrie when they get to his house. As a reminder, Aidan has three sons, with the youngest being Wyatt.

“But it’s okay that I’m here?” she asks, feeling understandably uninvited. “Yes, but we’ve got this thing now where the night before we lay out what the next day’s gonna be,” he explains. “And you don’t want to like, spring me on them?” Carrie asks. “No, but yeah, kind of,” he says.

Instinctively, Carrie’s frustrated, but she jokes it off. “Understood, so should I just sleep in a field, staying up like a horse?” she says. “That’s what they do, right?”

“Guesthouse,” Aidan then replies. “Neat as a pin.” Seriously?!

As they get out of the truck, Aidan tries to make up for the request. “I’m so glad you’re here,” he says. “Huh, you have a funny way of showing it,” Carrie says, before he gives her a big ol’ kiss.

In the final scene of the episode, Carrie is then sitting alone in Aidan’s guesthouse bed (no, Aidan didn’t join her), writing on her laptop.

Whether you were a longtime fan of Aidan and Carrie or not, it’s safe to say their recent chapters were a little too bumpy. After all, after he asked for a five-year break to take care of his family, he was the one who gave nothing but mixed signals by asking for phone sex and surprising her with a visit.

And now that Carrie’s feeling that she can approach him again, he’s exiled her to his guesthouse after she traveled all the way to Virginia. Is getting on a flight not enough to get to the main house?

From the looks of it, Carrie’s still determined to make it work and has already forgiven him by the time she goes to bed. But will her fans do the same?
