Director Christopher Nolan is known for making some of the most mind-bending movies that push the boundaries of storytelling. As a result, it isn’t a surprise that Nolan enjoys watching similarly complex and twisted shows, including the Showtime series The Curse.

Following the show’s premiere, Nolan hosted a discussion panel for it alongside creators Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie. During the panel, Nolan admitted that he enjoyed the series, which stars Fielder and actress Emma Stone as the Sigels, a couple who host a reality series for HGTV.
During the panel, Nolan praised Stone’s performance in the series alongside other elements, stating:
The performance, I think, is absolutely amazing and wonderful. She’s totally in it
Nolan made the above statement, praising The Amazing Spider-Man actress for her complex and layered portrayal of Whitney Siegel. The series overall was received well by the critics, resulting in a 93% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes for its first season.

In the same panel discussion, Nolan also dished out on his love for The Curse, which concluded its ten-episode first season in January 2024. The acclaimed director, who won his first Best Director Oscar last year, gave a glowing review to the series.
It’s an incredible show, and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen on television before.
Nolan made the above statement, expressing his admiration for the show’s complex themes and twist-filled narrative. He further favorably compared the series to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, which has the same surreal tone as The Curse.
Nolan made the following comment, comparing both shows because of their style and tone:
There are so few shows that come along that have genuinely no precedence. You’re going back to things like Twin Peaks.
From Nolan’s words, it is safe to say that the trio of Fielder, Stone, and Safdie impressed the filmmaker and turned him into a fan with the underrated series. The director is currently working on his next feature film, The Odyssey, while The Curse has not been renewed for a second season.
