Amanda Seyfried Just Got Candid About This Major Career Change After Becoming a Mom

Back in 2017, Amanda Seyfried became a mom for the very first time. And while her fans might not have noticed, it seems her career has changed a lot since.

In a conversation with Nobody Wants This star Adam Brody for Variety‘s Actor on Actors, Seyfried said it didn’t take long for her to be cast only in mom roles after becoming a mom of her two kids, Nina, who was born in 2017, and Thomas, who was born in 2020, with husband Thomas Sandoski.

“As soon as the people of Hollywood understood that I popped something out of my body, they were like, ‘You’re a mom now!’” Seyfried said.

“It comes with a lot of benefits,” she added. “There are just richer roles and I’ve worked with a lot of kids now in the last eight years since my daughter was born.”

Of course, that includes her latest role in the thrilling series Long Bright River. In it, Seyfried plays a police officer and mom of one as she gets tangled up in solving a series of suspicious murders in Philadelphia.

In the show, her son Thomas was played by child actor Callum Vinson. “Callum was just so present and loves to work,” Seyfried said of her co-star. “Kids and animals can be sometimes unpredictable, which is perfectly natural, but he brought such magic.”

“We had a lot of inside jokes and my daughter was very enamored by him,” she added.

This isn’t the first time Seyfried has talked about her career shift. “I do think that the roles have become way richer and definitely challenging in ways that I didn’t have earlier in my career,” the Oscar nominee said at the Berlin Film Festival in 2024, per Variety.

At the time, she was talking about her role in Seven Veils. “I felt like Jeanine, specifically as a mother, trying to figure out where she stands in her life as a parent and as a wife who is so on the precipice of separating from her husband,” Seyfried said at the time. “She’s kind of hanging on a thread everywhere and not being taken as seriously as she’d like to in her career, just wanting more.”

Looks like this type of role is exactly what Seyfried is looking for!
