Fans of the journey through disease-ridden France, rejoice, because A Plague Tale is back with a bang. The series is officially making a grand return with their upcoming game, Resonance, but it might not be what you expect.
It seems like the developers have heard our collective yearning for this one NPC character because instead of picking up from where the previous game left off, in Resonance, we are being whisked back in time, and into the spotlight as our new protagonist is none other than Sophia, who became the fan-favourite NPC from A Plague Tale: Requiem. Let’s delve deeper into this and find out more.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a prequel spin-off to the first two games

A Plague Tale series is an action-adventure stealth game that is developed by Asobo Studios. While the original games follow the story of two siblings, Amicia and Hugo de Rune, Resonance is going to be a spin-off that will focus on Sophia, a.k.a Sea Scorpion, who is a pirate smuggler well known for her illegal trade business.
Making its grand debut at the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Resonance’s trailer immediately transported us to Sophia’s past. The game takes us 15 years before the events of the first game, A Plague Tale: Innocence, showing a noticeably younger Sophia, looking as if she has just started her career as a smuggler.
Given Sophia’s status as a beloved character, a solo game from Asobo Studio was hardly a surprise. In a press release, the chief creative officer of Asobo Studios, David Dedeine, revealed how the team wanted to explore the character of Sophia and expand the world of the game with new places and eras.
We wanted to expand and explore the world of A Plague Tale with a character — Sophia — that is very close to our heart, but within a much more action-oriented experience, This fresh approach comes with intuitive and rewarding combat, as well as a brand-new manifestation of the Macula, the ancient evil. Resonance embraces themes, places and eras that we had never explored before.
Other members from the studio also mentioned their love for the character in the press release and emphasized how they wanted to add a mythical side to the combat of the upcoming game.
Asobo Studio’s return feels both nostalgic and revolutionary

Asobo Studios is not just adding another chapter to the saga of A Plague Tale, but instead, they are probably reshaping its very foundation with this new prequel. By focusing on the more untamed and unpredictable world of Sophia, the developers are taking a creative leap with new timelines, geographies, and threats, all while maintaining the signature cinematic storytelling gameplay.
The affection for Sophia from the entire development unit just makes it more evident that she is no longer just a memorable side character but a fully realized protagonist of her own.
While it is still early to say whether the new combat-driven gameplay will make Resonance more fun or not, one thing we can say for sure is that, like us, other fans of the series are also ecstatic to see A Plague Tale return with a new legacy.
