Tom Hiddleston is opening up about the highs and lows of life after he and fiancée Zawe Ashton confirmed that they are expecting their second baby.
“On the path of life, we encounter hardship and loss and pain and grief,” Hiddleston, 44, told SXSW London reporters during the closing night premiere of The Life of Chuck on Saturday, June 7. “Those things are real, but we also encounter joy, and it’s the joy that we hold onto, which becomes the courage we need when it feels like the world is falling apart.”
He added, “Actually, that joy, which is deep and real, is the love that we shared from the people [who] raised us.”
Hiddleston stepped out on Saturday with Ashton, 44, who debuted her pregnancy in a blue, ruffled Emilia Wickstead gown with a coordinating cape.

“I feel really lucky to be working with someone that I know and who’s been such a champion of me at this sensitive red-carpet dressing moment,” Ashton told Vogue ahead of her pregnancy reveal. “I feel like I’ll be very held on an evening where, as an expectant mother, you can feel a little bit exposed.”
She continued, “I think that every time you step onto a red carpet, there’s a really unique opportunity to express your authentic self, your individuality, your creativity, and celebrate where you are at that moment.”
Wickstead, 42, further told Vogue that designing a maternity gown for Ashton was “especially meaningful and full circle.”
“Zawe wore a soft pink gown from us during her last pregnancy — quietly glowing, with a little secret only she knew,” the fashion designer explained to the outlet. “Now, to celebrate her second in this beautiful blue from our pre-fall collection, and to share it with the world, feels like a sweet continuation of that story. I’m so honored to be part of it. Zawe is also such a vibrant, clever and special friend and muse of the brand —s he’s been wearing Emilia Wickstead for years, and I love being part of her journey.”
Hiddleston and Ashton previously welcomed their first child, whose name and sex have not been publicly shared, in 2022, months after getting engaged.

“Tom and Zawe are loving being new parents and are filled with joy,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly. “They have been having the struggles of new parents and aren’t sleeping much but are thrilled.”
Since then, the two actors noticed how parenthood completely changed their perspectives on life.
“I think I probably knew it would, but I could never have imagined how deeply it would until it happened. And yeah, it’s before and after,” Hiddleston said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast in November 2023.
