But just off Corfu is a stunning little island that has loads to offer tourists.

Paxos is located in the Ionian Sea, just south of Corfu.

The group of islands lie near Antipaxos, and can also be called Paxi or Paxoi in its plural form.

It’s known for its gorgeous natural landscape, delicious cuisine and cheap cost of living.

It has miles of beaches that offer golden sand and crystal-clear waters, which are perfect for relaxing.

The area, much like Greece itself, is also covered in olive groves, which form a huge export for the country in the form of olive oil.

It’s popular with tourists looking for a relaxing and peaceful escape while taking in the authentic Greek experience.

The main towns include Gaios, Lakka and Loggos.

Each town has its own charm, but while visiting you can enjoy picturesque harbours along with traditional taverns and beautiful views.

The island features dramatic cliffs and secluded coves – as well as the famous Blue Caves of Paxos.

This can be explored by ferry, with many tours on offer – and you can even rent your own boat.

A collapsed roof in one of the caves allows the sun to shine in, making it a great place to snap a few pictures.

Or, go on a relaxing cruise to see the sites, where you can visit some of the caves that are large enough for ships and boats to squeeze through, including the Ypapandi cave.

You can also see the Tripitos Arch, which is one of the most popular natural formations.

The limestone arch reaches more than 20 meters high, and was formed from a collapsed sea cave.

Now, it gives visitors stunning views of the Ionian Sea – and is even wide enough for visitors to walk across.

There are even some historic sites to explore, including old lighthouses that give some insight into the island’s maritime past, the Castle of Saint Nicholas and some important religious sites.

The island has a laid-back vibe along with a slow pace of life – making it perfect for those seeking a chill escape.

€3.50 PINTS

You can try some delicious Corfu cuisine in stunning taverns and restaurants, including dishes like Sofrito, Pastitsada, and Bourdeto.

A main course in a restaurant will cost between €8 and €13, while a pint on the island will set you back just €3.50.

Throughout July and August, temperatures can reach highs of between 26C and 31C – perfect for those looking for some sun.

Due to its location, it’s great for exploring the other nearby islands as well as Corfu.

You can book seats to Corfu with Ryanair from €46, with the flight taking three and a half hours.

To get there, take the ferry from Corfu which takes between 45 minutes and two-and-a-half hours – depending on your departure port.
