Tom Felton Returning as Draco Malfoy Shouldn’t Stop Him from Playing a Major Weasley in HBO’s Harry Potter

Tom Felton is a British actor best known for his iconic role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series. Rising to fame as the sly, complex rival of Harry Potter, Felton’s portrayal captured the character’s arrogance, vulnerability, and eventual growth, making him a standout in the beloved franchise.

Beyond Harry Potter, Felton has showcased his versatility through various film and television roles, as well as pursuing a music career. He remains deeply connected to the Harry Potter fandom, often engaging with fans and participating in special events and documentaries celebrating the series.

His charisma and dedication have solidified him as a lasting figure in pop culture. Now, he is all set to wear the crown of Draco Malfoy again after 14 years.

Tom Felton is set to reprise his iconic role as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, bringing back the sly charm and complex villainy that made the character unforgettable in the original films (via NME).

He takes on the role of an adult Draco, bringing new depth and nostalgia to this continuation of the wizarding world’s saga. Fans are eager to see how he’ll evolve the character in this new adaptation.

Felton stated during a talk with Variety:

Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honours of my life.. Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play.

However, this shouldn’t stop him from playing the role of Charlie Weasley in HBO’s Harry Potter. Charlie Weasley is the second eldest of the Weasley siblings in the Harry Potter series

Known for his love of dragons, he works as a dragon handler in Romania and is described as physically strong and outdoorsy. Charlie has a laid-back and adventurous personality, and although he doesn’t appear much in the main plot, he’s admired by his younger brothers and respected for his daring career.

Despite his minor role, he’s a fan favorite thanks to his fierce independence and passion for magical creatures. Meanwhile, Tom Felton’s charisma and mischievous energy could make for an intriguing Charlie Weasley. Charlie is known as the dragon-obsessed, outdoorsy brother with a kind heart and fearless spirit.

While Felton’s best known for the cunning Malfoy, he’s also shown a lighter, adventurous side in other roles—traits that would suit Charlie’s rugged, fun-loving personality.

Physically, Felton’s boyish looks and athletic build could certainly align with the dragon wrangler vibe. So, while it’s a big departure from Draco, it’s definitely a fun and plausible fit

Exploring the character of Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Felton portrayed Malfoy, Harry Potter’s cunning adversary (played by Daniel Radcliffe), in all eight of the fantasy films. He’s remained a beloved figure in the fandom, openly embracing his ties to the role on social media and even directing the documentary Tom Felton Meets The Superfans.

Meanwhile, first staged in London’s Palace Theatre on July 30, 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child follows Potter, Ron, Hermione, and Malfoy as adults sending their children to Hogwarts 19 years after the original books ended.

In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Draco Malfoy is depicted as a more mature and complex figure, grappling with his past and the challenges of being a father. As an adult, Draco is protective of his son, Scorpius, and even finds himself working alongside Harry and his old Hogwarts rivals to protect their children.

This older Draco is a far cry from the sneering schoolboy of the original series, adding new layers of emotion and growth to the character.

All eight Harry Potter films are currently streaming on Peacock and Max.
