Dragon Ball has some extremely heartless moments, but nothing can stand up to Vegeta’s introduction before he officially arrived on Earth. While on his way to Earth, Vegeta and Nappa had decided to take a detour and caused widespread destruction in their wake.
It was all a part of a plan to show just how ruthless Vegeta can be. It was the buildup before Vegeta could battle Goku. But it has been years since he became Goku’s ally, and his past sins have not been accounted for.
Vegeta’s worst crime in Dragon Ball Z

Vegeta was a part of Frieza’s army, and thus it is a given that he is a ruthless individual. He never bats an eyelid before killing and pillaging. But the extent of his ruthlessness was revealed in episode 11 of Dragon Ball Z titled ‘Terror on Arlia.’ Surprisingly enough, it is a mixed canon episode, and the incident at Arlia is completely anime original.
The episode shows Vegeta and Nappa heading for Earth as they decide to take a short detour. They reach a planet called Arlia and are disappointed with its barrenness and desolation. Soon, they are captured by Arlians and taken to their king. The Saiyans feign temporary defeat just to get more fun out of things.
Turns out Arlia has an evil king called Moai who took away Lemlia, the bride of Atla, and had the groom imprisoned. Moai soon orders the Saiyans to battle his strongest fighters, all of whom are defeated pretty soon. Next, Moai calls upon Yetti, a being over 50 feet tall. Once again, the two defeat the alien and eventually kill off Moai.
This leads to Atla and Lemlia being reunited, and Atla calls the Saiyans their heroes. This would have been an otherwise sweet story, but as the Saiyans left the planet, unimpressed by it, Vegeta fired his Galick Gun, hat destroyed the entire planet just as the lovers ran happily into each other’s arms. Nappa and Vegeta casually continued their journey once the planet was gone.
Vegeta has not accounted for his sins even after 36 years later

Episode 11 of Dragon Ball Z originally aired in July 1989, and it has been 36 years since Vegeta committed such an atrocious act. However, the destruction of Arlia has already been forgotten, and Vegeta has begun a new chapter in his life with Bulma and their son, Trunks.
Since the incident, Vegeta has been in multiple combats, trainings, and friendly battles, and has even led a happy life on Earth. He has become a better individual, but everyone seems to have forgotten that he destroyed an entire planet just for fun. He has not been held responsible for his actions at all.
Part of the reason that Vegeta was never deemed answerable for Arlia could be because it was a filler episode. Still, it would be good if, for once, he had to pay back for everything that he did while he was under Frieza’s command.
Dragon Ball Z anime is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
